Hi,
The pilot ofifice probably has a bit of dirt in it...to get it out you will need to take the pilot apart and clean it out...this can be fairly difficult on those heaters and getting it back together can be a pain...pay attention as you take it apart...blow our the tip with canned air like you would use to clean your keyboard...
Then reassemble...
Sometimes the "hood" or the cover over the flame will bend up over time and you will also have to bend it down a bit to get the pilot flame onto the thermocouple...make sure the thermocouple is also pushed all the way up in the holder...

I have an Empire gas heater. It does not stay lit. It will go out after about 30 minutes to two hours. When we first started having this problem if you set it where it wasn't completely level it would stay...

Look at your thermocouple. Is it glowing red from being heated by the pilot flame? Is the pilot flame blue or yellow? You may have a dirty pilot orifice that is not heating your thermocouple enough to keep it lit after the burner cycles off. A yellow flame will eventually burn the tip of the thermocouple, which causes more frequent problems and eventually it will not work at all. If you have a can of compressed air with attached straw, use it to blow out the pilot orifice (with the gas off) where the pilot flame usually burns. Then examine the tip of the thermocouple and see if it is still round and smooth. Jagged or irregular tips mean it should be replaced. A blue pilot flame and a new thermocouple should do it. Hope that fixes it for you. Douglas

Will not stay lit. Heater will light and, heat but goes out and will not come on by itself.

Does it go out immediately or pretty soon after it lights? That sounds like a problem with the thermocouple or whatever it uses to detect the flame. May need to be replaced or cleaned.

Pilot wont stay lit when i release push down button on gas valve

Are you certain you are connecting the generator to the correct terminals? Is the pilot head partially blocked not allowing the flame to reach the generator even though the pilot is lit? Can you read the millivolts on the generator leads? Is the reading 400mV or higher? I assume it will be with a new generator but if it is not then the flame is not across the generator as it should be. If it is, be certain you are connecting the two leads properly and in the correct order. The generator has polarity so it needs to be connected to the valve properly. The tag up inside the heater should give you the correct locations for the white and red wires on the valve.

I HAVE A DESA LP VENTLESS FIREPLACE AND THE PILOT WILL NOT STAY LIT

the heater makes use of a millivolt generator which generates a small dc voltage (500-750mv) that is applied to the pilot valve of your main gas valve. when you light your pilot, the flame bathes the generator with a flame. after a delay you release the pilot button. if the generator is working, the pilot valve will stay lit. if the generator is not working the flame will go out as soon as you release the pilot button. change the generator.

The thermocoupler is no good. It's that bulb sitting in the pilot flame. when it goes out it shuts everything doen in the main valve. It has to be kept hot by the pilot, that's how it know whether or not it is safe to open the main .

Empire DV-215 Low Flame Issue

Either a restriction in the gas train, low gas pressure or a bad gas valve. Check the pressure on the gas line when on pilot and again when the burners are running. Depending upon what type of gas it runs on, you should have at least 4" W.C. if Natural Gas and 10" W.C. if Propane. If gas pressures test good and all valves are open, you are looking at replacing the gas valve.
