Generally speaking if your @ light on the front of your router is not lit then your telephone line is not enabled for ADSL however you will still be able to goto 192.168.0.1 and check this is an example of the screen display
ADSL LINE FAILURE LINE NOT PHYSICALLY CONNECTED
ERROR : Return Code 100
This also can happen if the twisted pair copper wire that is used to send the signal into your router has been disconnected or there is a short outside your house.
NOTE: That even if BT reconnect and complete a silent line test on your telephone line from your house from the Master Test socket behind your faceplate this doesn't mean that you will have a Broadband Signal from your ISP.
Under normal operation you should see the following screen click show statistics, this line is connected at 3.3MB
your router may have incorect connection settings. what i mean is that your router may have security on that rejects connecting to adapter. check if the xbox can connect to the internet via ethernet cable. this will tell for sure if the 1 the adapter cannot read the signal or 2 the adapter is not able read any signals. to test if its the adapter, try searching for other signals.if you find any other signal it means your router. is rejecting to send the signal to the xbox.
you do have an account with an isp yeah? eg BT, Tiscali, Sky, etc etc having a wireless router does not in itself get you onto the net... if you have an isp already thats cool but is the router you have a broadband modem too? or does it need to connect to your existing modem? the reason I ask is DNS is dial up networking service and one of the reasons a DNS would not be found is if there simply was not one to be found
In the past they always billed you with one bill. also if your phone was cut off due to lack off payment so the BB went off also.
they have now split their billing system - and services- into two separate identities, meaning that the phone could be cut off for calls yet your Broadband will still work and vice versa.
So, i would say the problem lies with BT , even though you have ordered your BB from Sky they still have to ask BT to setup your service at the exchange. It seems that they have not checked your service for both BB and phone.
I recently had my phone cut off (BT's 'direct debit 'accident'!) but my BB worked throughout the fortnight it took them to resolve where my paid bill money was!..
So. Call your main service provider (that would be Sky if you get no bills from BT) and tell them your phone service has most certainly NOT been activated.
I recently spent 17 hours over 3 days speaking to 23 customer assistants, before reaching a manager who resolved a similar issue for me at BT.
Under their new setup BB personel cannot see your phone account and phone personel cannot see your BB account - and we get charged over 1/3rd more for this mayhem . their reason explained to me as "having everything on one bill was confusing some customers so you now have two accounts and two bills for everything" !!
your socket is fine as you have enough connection for BB which takes more bandwidth than a voice line.
Basically you have some corporate customer service red tape to hack through.
If you're looking for an option to connect the XBOX consoles to your wireless G network you'll need to purchage a wireless game adapter (simular to a wireless bridge) like this one for linksys http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16873999102 for each console you wish to connect. You will have to connect the game adapter to your pc first to configure it on the network and then connect it to the XBOX. Xbox should detect the wireless adapter and you should be ready to go.
