It sounds like the installation of Windows is corrupt, but the hard drive is still likely to be OK. You will need to boot off the Windows Operating system CD/DVD and perform a REPAIR of the Windows Operating System. If a repair fails then a fresh installation of Windows should still be possible, but you will then also need to re-install any applications too. Provided you do not re-format the hard disk, all of your documents and settings should still be accessible.

There is a corrupt operating system file - you will probably need to load the recovery disk (typically supplied with ever dell OEM system), and do a recovery load. Go through the process of installing the OS, but when you get to the part where it asks what you're doing, do the "R" install (for "Repair"), it should load the correct file, and you're on your way

For that you need recovery disk.
Put that disk in cd/dvd rom.
Then when you power up the computer press F1 or F2 or "del" key to enter in bios.
Then go to boot option then set first boot device as your cd/dvd rom then save settings and exit.
Then it boot with that recovery disk then follow the procedure and choose "R" for recovery console then type in prompt "chkdsk /r"
then press "y
then it fix error on harddisk.
Then resatrt computer then if still same error then again boot computer with disk then choose "r" for repair previous windows then it repairs it.
Let me know if you need further assistance.
Thanks for using FixYa.

SOURCE: Problem booting up dell dimension 2300 desktop.

You have no choice either you should reinstall your system, you should provide windows CD/DVD installation and boot your system using this disk.

However; you should backup your important files be cause most likely the all files will be removed during the installation process.

Well this means one of important files needed to start Windows is corrupted (it's a registry file).
I'd recommend repairing Windows installation. If you have Windows XP and also the Original Windows CD follow: this guide.

Hp compaq 530usdt windows\system32\conf\system. File missing or corrupt

insert original win installation cd and reboot... when in boot mode make sure you are booting from CD, not from disk, when message asking that you "boot up from cd " appears, just press any key, and folow procedure, but do not install a new copy of windows ! There must be "repair your computer" option on your CD, for Win Xp - it is "recovery console" ! When repairing finishes restart computer and boot from disk (just do not press anything when you see message "boot from CD..." and let windows from HDD configure it self).

Windows\system32\ntoskrnl.exe filie is missing or corrupt.

need to reinstall windows cause the system files for the operating system is corrupt.

On your compaq, keep pressing F10 as you turn on the computer and that should take you into the factory restore.

If you can't get into that then you'll need an operating system cd and then download the drivers off of the compaq website: partsurfer.hp.com

Just google the error msg and you'll find the solution for it. At most times, ppl recommend you to delete this particular registry file that is associated with this dll file. But if I were you, i would better reinstall the operating system. Just google the error and give a try. Best o'luck.

Hope this helps, If so, rate me.. ,thanks - billa

\windows\system32\config\system missing or corrupt

You can do a refresh of your Windows OS, if you have Windows XP. You need to boot to your XP CD and do a repair. This will only restore the Windows OS files and you will not lose your personal data.

This should help. please rate my response.

Windows>\system32\hal.dll. corrupt

HAL.DLL Missing or Corrupt

If you get an error regarding a missing or corrupt hal.dll file, it might simply be the BOOT.INI file on the root of the C: drive that is misconfigured

Insert and boot from your WindowsXP CD.
At the first R=Repair option, press the R key
Press the number that corresponds to the correct location for the installation of Windows you want to repair.
Typically this will be #1
Type bootcfg /list to show the current entries in the BOOT.INI file
Type bootcfg /rebuild to repair it
Take out the CD ROM and type exit

I am assuming you are having a problem with a missing or corrupted system32\hal.dll under Windows XP. There are a few steps you can take to try solving the problem.

First, try rebooting. Sometimes the problem seems to go away on its own.

If that doesn't work, boot into "safe mode with command prompt" and type c:\windows\system32\restore\rstrui.exe

If the problem still persists, your best bet is to boot from your Windows XP disc and perform a recovery installation of Windows, which should clear up the problem.
