how old is the unit and can you hear any odd electrical arcing noise from the unit,? outside of the usual low hum of the elements heating up?

The igniter must draw approximately 3.0 amps before it will open the gas valve to allow the oven to function. Place a clamp amp meter on one of the leads and check the amount of current. If less than 2.9 amps replace the igniter. You can find it on http://www.ignitors.com/oven-ignitors/dynasty.html
