Question about NAD C740 Receiver

Open Question

C740 will not power up..

At first it was intermittent and now it is completely dead.

I took the unit to my repairer who said the faulty part was 'Oscillator XTAL 701' which apparently is no longer available.. A big bit disappointing.

Can anybody offer any suggestions on where I might be able to source this part or any alternatives or even any hacks to get it working with reduced functionality (if possible).

Power to the receiver is intermittent, fuse is fine so I'm stumped. If it was the transformer it would not work at all is what I would think. Or is there more than one fuse.

This could be a bad solder connection in the power supply area. The fuses in the unit would take it out completely. It could be a faulty semi-conductor, but I think it would be more likely to be aloose wire or solder connection. I would say for certain if the unit has been knocked, dropped, or moved recently.

E321vl no power. could this mean bad logic board?

The downside of a product getting a power surge is it will never be just right. It is not worth the cost to repair it. Consider buying a new TV instead. Suggest a Smart TV.

NAD C740 Chanel B Speakers not working The speaker output A is working properly, then the output B is completely silent. I install differents speakers and even the same speakers. no sound from the B...

possibly the causes are: 1. defective channel B power amp board. But try operating first with the built in tuner, if it's ok the RCA cable from your other sources(DVD player, etc...) might have broken internal conductor.
2. if it has the speaker switch(A, B, A+B) try toggling it, might also just loose contacts.
if the trouble is #1, leave everything to your trusted qualified technician, he knows what to do, unless you want to tweak/repair it by yourself...hope this helps ;-)

My mission Mv-as subwoofer has an intermittant problem - it works for a short time and then the unit fails to function. there is not a problem with the power and the speaker unit is not damaged. is this...

Yes , the possible fault can be a suspected fault in the sub woofer power amplifier. You will need to remove to check the circuit.
It can be a faulty or dry soldering in the main board., re solder IC.
Also if the IC is faulty it can be erratic, a signal test must prove it right applied to the input.

Kenwood VR-606 - No display

a VR 606 is a 5.1 unit and currently has a market value of under $100 (used fexcellent condition) would not be worth investing over $100 to replace a dead LCD screen.

Check craigslist for a deal on a used unit in your area.

Remember its buyer beware, people tend to think their outdated stuff is worth more than it really is. A good tool is to look up "completed" ebay listings for the model you are considering to gauge if you are getting a good deal.

There are also several websites that have market value info available but usually the require a fee and are usually used by pawn shops, insurance companies etc..

My Rotel RSX-972 surround sound receiver has no power, the repair centre cannot isolate the problem and they do not have a service manual to guide them,a service manual would be handy??

Unless yuo can find a Rotel authorized service center, you are not likely to find any service information. These units should not be difficult to repair. Their designs are pretty much standard with a few twists. Any shop that handles audio repair should be able to resolve this. If not, please post your location and I'll try to locate a shop for you.

Also, are there any indications that the unit is trying to work at all or is it completely dead?

Cdp-ce215 sony cd player display dead.

Yes, most likely it is the display. Your best bet is to sell it for parts/as is on craigslist or the likes, and purchase a replacement as a comparable replacement would be very inexpensive. If you have any other questions let me know.

One speaker channel will not work - going from intermittent to completely dead.

It is possible that the speaker that is intermittent is causing the problem. Try disconnecting the speaker and see if the unit stays on and plays on all other channels. If it does, then try connecting one of the other speakers into that speaker jack and see if it still plays ok. If it does, that speaker is causing a problem. If the unit still does not operate properly after disconnecting the intermittent speaker or with a different speaker connected, the problem is most likely in the receiver.

When you say it is completely dead, does that mean that after you turn the receiver on, it shuts itself back off in just a few seconds? That is the "protect" mode of the receiver. It most likely has a bad output channel in the receiver and would not be anything you could fix yourself unless you are very good with soldering and checking electronic components.

I work at a Denon authorized service center and repair between 5 to 10 Denon receivers a week. The process of fixing them is not an easy one and is not a good idea to try and do unless you have the proper training and tools. But if you are wanting to try it yourself, I could be some help for you. I would need to know the model number, probably an AVR-????
I have the schematics and part numbers available for you if you need them.

Any extra information as to how the receiver is acting would also be helpful.

Since most Denon receivers are very good and on the expensive side, they are worth fixing. A bad channel normally runs about $150 to fix, but it does depend on exactly what is wrong with it. They are never just one part that is bad, it is usually about 5 to 10 parts that must be replaced. That is why it is important to be able to check the components properly, if you miss one bad part and then turn it on, you will usually destroy the parts that were just replaced.

Let me know if you need any help or advice on how to determain the exact problem. It will require more detail.
