The battery could possible be dying. You can check with the diagnostics menu by pressing the center and left buttons on bootup.

tip

IPod Nano/Video/Touch Resetting

One day your using your iPod and all of a sudden, boom. It turns off and refuses to work or read by your computer.
You might get the apple logo, but thats where it ends. In this case, theres a few things that can probably bring you device back and kicking.

iPod Nano/Video(Classic)

6th Gen Nano

Press and hold the Sleep/Wake button and Volume Down button simultaneously for at least eight seconds or until the Apple logo appears. You may need to repeat this step.
If the above step did not work, try connecting iPod to a power adapter and plug the power adapter into an electrical outlet, or connect iPod to your computer. Make sure the computer is turned on and isn't set to go to sleep. Try resetting the iPod while it is connected to power.

4th and 5th Gen Nano/Classic/Video (CLICK WHEEL VERSION)

1. Toggle the Hold switch on and off. (Slide it to Hold, then turn it off again.)
2. Press and hold the Menu and Center (Select) buttons simultaneously until the Apple logo appears, about 6 to 8 seconds. You may need to repeat this step.

In case the reset does not work, the alternative is to connect the device in disk mode and restoring it.

  1. Before placing the iPod into disk mode, you should verify that it is charged.
  2. Toggle the Hold switch on and off. (Set it to Hold, then turn it off again.)
  3. Press and hold the Menu and Select buttons for at least 6 seconds until the Apple logo appears.
  4. When the Apple logo appears, release the Menu and Select buttons and immediately press and hold the Select and the Play/Pause buttons until the Disk Mode screen appears. zero77cool.jpg
  5. Connect the iPod to your computer; the screen on the iPod will change and say "Do not disconnect"
This will enable a black/white display. Restore it using iTunes.

If the above doesnt work, then Im afraid its time to repair your device.

I have an i-pod nano that seems to be locked. Screen stuck on 'connected' eject before disconnecting and cannot get to change

Depending on the model you can try toggling the hold switch on and off a few times, or holding the menu, select and play buttons together and waiting 10-12 seconds.

When I had the problem I just left it until it died. After it died I plugged it back in and it connected and after charging I disconnected it and it worked fine.

IPod nano black mp3 won't turn on

Try charging it using an A/C wall adapter. Sometimes the USB does not have enough power for a very dead ipod.
