I have an envision LM-700 monitor and I think the blub blew out today. WHich one do I need and how do I replace it?

I think it is the bulb because I can still see the desktop very faintly on the black screen. Also I know a little something about monitor repair (although it was CRT monitor repair including soldering on a new fly back (I don't know if you know what that is --- you may be to young) and swapping out a whole monitor chasis. I understand that swapping out a bulb on these new LCD's is an in depth project, but my monitor is over three years old and has had constant usage, so I would expect the bulb to die on me right about now. Now depending on the type of bulb my monitor takes either I will have to solder it on after desoldering off the old one, or there may just be connections. I wont know until I know what bulb I need. SO again, I have a Envision LM-700 monitor - do you know what bulb it takes?? Thanks -

Russelc, Before you even start to replace a "bulb" inside your unit I suggest that a visit to www.ccl-la.com/badcaps.htm and www.lcdparts.com to get a handle on just what is involved with a DIY project like this. WHAT even makes you think a bulb blew OUT??? There are many other components inside your monitor that can cause your BLACK SCREEN symptom. Did you visit YOUTUBE to view video clips of "LCD monitor disassembly" and/or "LCD monitor repair"??? It's not like changing out a failed "new style" screw-in curlie-Q CFL lightbulb that you can get at the local home depot or menards!!! Get back to me after you understand the two or three major causes of LCD BLACK SCREEN symptoms and how others have repaired their units. Also tell us how old or approximate total "ON" hours of use unit has. Did it have a bright, colorful, crisp text and graphics just prior to the BLACK screen problem?? Does the unit have a BLACK BRICK lay on floor power supply or is unit connected directly to wall outlet or surge protected power strip??? Let us know what your going to do after you do some research on the web. Also read some of my (and others) responses to other BLACK SCREEN LCD owners to see if different approach is needed. Bye for now. 12fixlouie aka louie12fix on fixya

russelc,I worked for Tv manufacturer that was bought by LG. And Yes!! I know what a flyback is and have measured and taken data on the HOT's that drive them. The CCFL's you need can be bought online. You will need to know the length and also lead length. Try www.ccfldirect.com I still think you have a SMPS/INVERTER problem. Good luck though. 12fixlouie

I would go ahead and boot into safe mode where you say it does work and then take a look. See how it detected it...ie look in device manager and see if it picked it up by it's true brand/type etc. Check the settings both of the display and on the envision itself. Check the resolution selection. It's probably picking it up as a lower res. but when it boots into reg windows may be trying to run at full res and perhaps that's what it won't do. Check to see what driver it's using. It may need the specific driver from envision and not the generic driver. It could also be a bad pin on the envision itself.

If you have another computer you can hook it up to, do that to make sure the envision is working. That way you can deduce which is the problem, the monitor or the setup in your laptop.

If *nothing* displays on your screen, the most likely problem is your LCD Backlight Power inverter. If the backlight power inverter is bad, you can usually see some remnants of an image on the screen if you shine a light on it. If the backlight power inverter is bad, it may not be worth repairing on a 17" screen, considering the low cost for a new one.

It should be noted that Envision provides a 3-yr warranty for most LCDs, so contacting them for repair may be a good option. More information here:
