The dial on my model#DU8016XB-1 is frequently VERY difficult to turn, causing me to think I will break it. Once I am able to force the dial to the START position, the dishwasher cycle seems to work just fine. Can the dial be fixed? Thanks, Bob

HI. Unfortunately, this damaged timer control module will need to be replaced. This type of device is not designed to be repaired. The timer motor mechanism is damaged, thus, causing theses issues you are experiencing. Apparently, part of the timer dial plate has become fused, or the cogs are damaged.

Have the timer control module replaced, asap. It is not repairable.

The needle keeps breaking

Either you have the wrong foot installed or your stitch setting is incorrect. Dial in a narrower setting. You may have a zig-zag setting without the zig-zag foot attachment, or your "width" dial is too wide for the foot's hole. Slowing turn the wheel and watch where the needle penetrates the foot hole. A collision at that point will break your needle every time!

White 1866. What are cleaning and oiling requirements?

It appears to be a mechanical machine. If so, use ONLY good quality sewing machine oil (not 3-in-1, cooking oil, or the old can from grandmother's sewing basket). It would help if you could remove the case to access the internal parts, but be care to not force/break the case trying to do that. (An oil bottle with a long narrow spout is very helpful for getting into difficult spots.) Slowly hand rotate the handwheel (always toward you) and while watching, apply 1-2 drops of oil every place that metal rubs metal. Do NOT oil belts, cams, or plastic parts. If you can, turn the dials, flip the levers and oil those parts as well. Don't forget the moving metal parts under the machine as well, ie bobbin mechanism, feed dogs, etc.

Bernina 831

The buttonhole dial (middle dial with the two buttonhole bars indicator in the center of the dial) is positioned somewhere past the top center mark so as to lock the mechanism up.
Also, due to oil varnishes that have accumulated on the buttonhole bearing plate mechanism, the buttonhole knob/dial will not rotate easily clockwise to put the mechanisms back to normal. This will require a repair to remove these varnishes.
Caution: (do not turn or force the buttonhole knob/dial counter clockwise). You can also break the buttonhole dial by forcing.
Machines of this age are now varnishing and need to be solvent cleaned to remove the solidifying residues that cause binding in the machines mechanisms.
Often, due to inexperience, technicians have used aerosol sprays that are not intended for lubrication, but rather as corrosion inhibitors, thus adding and seriously complicating the oxidation process of oils. Certain and most common spray lubricants found in hardware and even grocery stores are accidentally sold a lubricants. Once the varnishes form in combination on and in the extraordinary high precision of Bernina machines mechanisms, sticking is very common. The repair requires some very striong solvents to loosen and remove the varnishes so great care must be taken for personal safety as well as the prevention of damage to the machine.
The Bernina 1982 technical bulletin No.1 forbade the use of aerosol sprays due to varnishing problems.

Lights come on but don't stay on even though the tabs are set for it to stay on say from 4-12 it will go off at 7:30. Someone got thier hands on this before i did---could the tabs have been broken if...

GM40 is commercial-grade electronic time piece with FM1 analog timer dial.
I bought a used GM40 once and the electronics were bad, so if this is a used timer, it might not function as expected.

I don't think the tabs/pins are broken. FM1 timer module is heavy duty.
Turning the dial clockwise does not damage timer. That's how you set current time and test timer.
Rotating dial counterclockwise is not possible without breaking the timer.

http://waterheatertimer.org/pdf/Intermatic-Grasslin-gm40.pdf

FM1 analog timer module can be replaced if timer stopped working.
http://waterheatertimer.org/Intermatic-trippers-and-parts.html#FM1

If certain pins/tabs are broken, you might be able to work around problem by offsetting current time by 6 hours or 12 hours. Or you can move wires from NO to NC terminals and see if the relays are causing a problem.

To set FM1 timer, the pins are pushed outward or inward.
For example to turn on Load for 1 hour, then 4 consecutive pins are moved.
To turn on Load for 3 hours, then 12 consecutive pins are moved.
To test if pins need to be inward or outward, set some pins and then manually rotate timer dial clockwise and watch when the Load turns on-off.

Belt on power head breaks frequently

1. Make sure you're replacing with genuine Filter Queen belt.
2. Avoid vacuuming items that will roll up on the brush. This creates stress on the belt and will weaken and/or break it.
3. How frequently? "Frequently" is a relative term. On some vacuums, once a week is "frequent", on others, twice a year may be.

My 1/2 hp Chamberlain garage door stops while going down even when I am holding the wall unit. If I stop it and restart it goes a little further and then stops. Both sensors have green lights and they are...

On the back of the motor unit you will find the down force control. You may have to remove a light lens depending on your model. Increase this a 1/4 turn and try.

How to set up Speed Dial on a Uniden phone?

My Mom had this same problem.   I found these instructions on Uniden's website (uniden.com) under the "Owner Manuel" section.

Here you go - good luck!

Using the Speed Dial Memory
Storing Numbers in Speed Dial Memory
Your cordless phone can store up to ten numbers (up to 20 digits each) in the speed dial
memory. To store number in memory:
1) When the phone is in standby, press [memory]. The talk/batt low LED flashes.
2) Use the keypad to enter the phone number.
(To enter a 2-second pause between numbers, press [redial/
pause]. Each pause counts as a digit. )
3) Press [memory] again.
4) Select the speed dial location where you would like to store the
number ( [0] to [9] ). You will hear a confirmation tone indicating
that the number has been stored.
NOTE:
• Storing a number to a speed dial location will
overwrite the any previously stored number without
warning.
• When storing numbers into memory and the handset is idle (i.e., no key is
pressed) for more than 0 seconds, it will beep rapidly, and then the phone
will return to standby.
Dialing a Stored Number
1) When the phone is in standby, press [talk], and listen for a dial tone.
2) Press [memory] and enter the speed dial entry ([0] – [9]) that has the stored number
you want to dial. (If you enter a digit that does not contain a stored number, the
handset will beep rapidly, and the phone will not dial.)
Chain Dialing
The speed dial memory is not limited to phone numbers. You can store any number (up
to 20 digits) that you need to enter once your call connects. This is referred to as Chain
Dialing. An example is a frequently refilled prescription number. Store your pharmacy
phone number in one speed dial and your most frequently refilled prescription number
as another speed dial. To use, once you ring your pharmacy's automated prescription
line, simply press [memory] and the speed dial number where you stored your account
number.
Erasing a Stored Number from Memory
1) With the phone in standby, press [memory] twice.
2) Press the number of the speed dial entry. A tone indicates that the stored number is
erased from memory.
