I have the same problem... cleaning the contacts does not work. I'm using NiMH 2450 mAmp batteries, brand new, and I get a low battery indicator immediately. Camera shuts off unexpectedly. A short search online indicates that HUNDREDS of people are having the same problem. Kodak help not very helpful. I'm ready to buy something else!

This happened to me and my lens was still out- I think it happens especially when the batteries die during the last time you used it.
Anyhow- I tried about 14 different batteries, Im not sure why- as they were all brand new. I was just thinking.. "It can't be my camera- its gotta be these crappy batteries!"... No, not the case.
I would turn it on, and the screen would flash, pretending it was going to power on- and then shut off just as quickly after hearing the lens try to pop out/in.
SUPER frustrating- I have a fancy NEW Nikon, and I still prefer the photos taken with my kodak (silly, yes, but seriously Im in love with this all purpose camera!).
I read a few different forums- tried the above. And it didn't work. Sorry Pania Lee from KODAK, give us some useful tips or give us a free camera upgrade- Thanks.
I ended up trying to gently turn and pull and push the lens out during the .2 seconds I had the teensiest bit of power- after about a minute of trying to cajole the lens out or in, it WORKED!
So, give this a try if you had the same issue as I did.
What a relief.

Thanks!
I hope you find this helpful.

if you are using this camera for 4 yrs with the same lithium battery then you might need to try a new battery
any lithium battery cell's capacity diminishes after long use. it reduces the cell's ability to deliver current. the older batteries do not charge as much as new one.
when you charge your battery it irreversibly loses approximately 20% capacity per year.

The batteries always seem to drain shortly after putting them into the camera, no matter what type or brand of battery I use. Help!!!

?? Drain as in leaking. If the camera makes the batteries leak you should contact KODAK immediately and they will make a HSE case for you. Contact KODAK: http://www.kodak.com/eknec/PageQuerier.jhtml?pq-path=14563&pq-locale=en_US&_requestid=3490 If you mean the camera is drinking batteries try these steps: 1. Make sure you will install a new or fully charged battery/batteries into your camera. Please use lithium batteries Ni-Mh or rechargeable Batteries (2000 M.Amp or higher). 2. Clean the battery contacts. a. Remove the battery/batteries and the memory card from your camera, then wipe the battery contacts with a soft, clean cloth. b. Reinstall the battery/batteries into your camera 3. Turn on your camera without the memory card. (If it works then it?s your memory card that is faulty)

Camera immediate shuts off after turning it on

try using lithium or nimh rechargeable batteries. I had the same problem and switched out the batteries and put in eveready nimh batteries and it works fine now. Guess the old cheap ones weren't doing the job. And they were brand new batteries.
