Question about Garden

1 Answer

Installed a new carb kit & air filter. Reassembled & installed. Unit primer just bearly picks up fuel, after pumping it like a crazy man on crack! It will start on chock but as chock is rotated to open, the eng. runs then dies. I removed engine to make sure cyl hd bolts were tight. They were. Checked pickup & return hoses for restriction. None noted. Set L needle @ 1.5 turns rich and H needle 1/2. Set idle screw for high idle. Same problem persists.

you need to make sure the I.D of the hose are the same. to small not enough fuel, to big and it could get flooded. also remove fuel bowl off carb and make sure there's no trash in carb if so get a rebuild kit. take carb with you that way your parts man has model# and whatever he or she needs

No gas getting into carb. What next??

A carb is about all you can do!
If you have primer unable to pull fuel into the motor it maybe one of two things.....a blocked fuel inlet in the carb or the fuel lines are backwards! Try swapping the fuel lines and see if anything changes. If nothing improves you will need to remove the carb and clean it out. Do not use compressed air! Use a can of carb cleaner and allow to air dry afterwards. If you can remove the fuel screen that might help too. A carb kit will come with a new one. The whole carb from eReplacmentparts is less than 30 bucks. Which is a real timesaver!

As you have done most things, i would suggest you have a massive air leak, either through the cylinder or crankcase gasket, or through the crank seal, i think its time to pull the whole engine down and replace these items.

New battery, new starter & still problems starting

Hello! How long have you owned it? Question is directed at the carb and fuel pump...I would suggest rebuilding the carb with kit and replacing the fuel pump at the same time...see photos below...There are a couple of different fuel filters; one for a non- fuel pump (gravity feed) and one with a fuel pump...Your engine requires the fuel pump filter...dirt and varnish build up in the carb and pump especially if the wrong filter is installed...Buy a gallon of carb cleaner with the tray inside...

My Craftsman 17cc gas weed trimmer wouldn't start.

Hi There, Check the primer bulb for tare or pin holes. Replace it. Check and clean carb jet it maybe plugged with debree. Also check for spark which you didn't say. Replace with correct plug.
Note; Do not use strong cleaners on rubber seals (O rings and gaskets) They dry up and crack.
If needed use a dabble of grease on seals

Yes i have a hb-100 blower and when i hit the primer ball it pushes air out of the gas line but it does not **** any gas up the line back into the carberator??

sounds like the primer purge valve is faulty
but check the fuel filter and lines anyway for holes / perishing

could also be needing a carb kit installed particularly if been sitting around

might pay to fit carb rebuild kit for this machine

carb id # is stamped on the carb ie c1q or c1u ####
parts needed should be in the kit

your local outdoor power shop should be able to organise this

A relative has a weed eater featherlite 20c and thr primer bulb doesnt keep gas in it,is it supposed to?and if so what is the cause? And it want stay running unless u keep it running wide open. Why is that?

The machine is having a fuel delivery issue The purge/primer bulb PULLS fuel from the fuel tank, thru the carb and then to itself it pull any air/old fuel in the carb...and the PUSHES this mixture back to the fuel tank. There are check valves in carbs that have the bulb on them..Deteriorated fuel lines clog a screen in the carb and the ethanol in the gas works to deteriorate the fuel pump and metering diaghram in these carbs...You have to start at the tank with the fuel filter and go from there.
I'd say from the running symptons that a diaghram kit is needed for the carb...they are cheap and easily installed.
