Question about Leica Digilux 2 Digital Camera

1 Answer

Loss of function

I had owned my Leica for just under 12 months when I discovered that the function buttons on the back of the camera had ceased to operate. I have approached two registered Leica dealers and there solution is to send it back to Germany; no explanation of the loss of function was given. The camera still takes pictures and stores them on the memory card; however, stored pictures cannot be accessed without the use of a computer. At present, what is a fairly expensive digital camera is operating as a wet film camera with an unreliable light meter. Any one else reported this problem? Any solutions?

Re: Loss of function

Whilst it is still under warranty you must return it to the seller.
That is your first move - it is their responsibility.
The second is to contact the makers support site and tell them.

Bear in mind price /value not withstanding small electronic devices are replaced not repaired.

The lcd screen on my Dlux-4 Leica will not light up at all? any thoughts?

Did you try to press the display button (bottom rich, under the display) several times? The pressing will cycle through different settings, like display off.

How do I learn to use the Leica M24 camera?

I think you mean a Leica M240.
Actually it is a professional camera. The best you can do is chose the single shot mode and put the shutter speed to automatic, to start.
There are so many settings in this camera, it would take days to explain, if you already had some experience with another camera. Like what ISO, why to work with a aperture or speed setting.
I can tell you, I'm an amateur for almost 50 years now, and I'm still learning. My latest camera I own now 3 years and still I don't use it to the full extend. But everyone can see the quality of the pictures are getting better over time, because I learn what settings are the best in a certain situation.
Read the manual, special the one about the settings, to get used to the knobs and buttons on the camera. Also read the part of the viewfinder, because you have to come familiar with what you see there.
I wish you lots of fun with this beautiful camera.
Just one advice:
There are no bad pictures, just missed chances to take one.

Recently I bought Leica D-Lux 5 Digital Camera on Creaiglist. It does not have stickers on the bottom of the camera and I don't know the serial number too. How can I get necessary stickers to stic

Each camera made has it's own serial number so the manufacture can track the item for warranty service, it is impossible to obtain stickers for that reason.

The metering of my M8 is always over 1 2/3 stop, any way to make the adjustment? or have to send it back to Leica?

Leicas are norrmally quite good on metering (within the confines of spot metering).

Have you checked whether any exposure compensation has already been programmed in? I don't think it resets itself, so if its consistently 5/3 of a stop out, then it might be that.

Page 107 of the user manual shows how to adjust / check..

Manual is here:

If its not that, you could use that function as a short term measure to consistently change the exposure.

You don't say how old it is.... if its still under warranty (actually, even if it isn't but its still reasonably new) I'd be tempted to correspond with Leica directly (write first - they respond quite quickly) to establish what they think the problem and solution should be. The 8 went to 8.2 quite quickly (by Leica standards), so its always worth an initital sounding out (which costs nothing). If it is their fault, they'll instruct you what to do next.

Button stuck, casuing unrepsonsiveness in all other buttons

Most buttons on a camera are a simple raised rubber pad over a printed circuit board. The button gets pressed, a concuctive material on the bottom of the rubber pad puts a short across a printed pad. If the camera senses a short across the down button, it will ignore all other buttons. You need to take the back off the camera and the rubber button pad will probably be right in the back, clean the contact with an alcohol Qtip and you should be OK.

I had the same issue. Unfortunately the camera had to go back to Leica for a new LCD screen. Mine was still under warranty -if yours is take it back asap bfore thewarranty runs out! If it isn't take it back to dealer and argue for a free repair as it's a known issue with the camera- Leica have had alot of these camers come back so you may have some luck with them. Worth trying anyway! Shame as it's a great camera otherwise...

No picture thru viewfinder or monitor

Okay, I have found the solution (along with Megant, it appears.) It is definitely a dead sensor issue. I contacted Leica via email ( and received a response from JoAnn Scott, a Leica customer service manager ( stating that the sensor issue is a common one and is covered under an extended warranty. I shipped my Digilux 2 to this address:
Leica Camera Inc. / Customer Service Manager
Re: Dead Sensor Repair
1 Pearl Court, Unit A / Allendale, NJ 07401 / USA

and within 2 weeks received a repair ticket from Leica, identifying the issue and indicating a zero balance for the repair. A follow up with JoAnn revealed that the turnaround time on the repair would be 4 to 6 weeks. The most expensive part of this whole deal was the 18 dollars I spent insuring the camera when I sent it back via the USPS.

Hope this helps.
