You should be able to transfer your motherboard to the new case, but some things to check before you do:
How do the power switches and front audio/USB connections work for the old gateway? Are they standard or vendor specific? Are the optical drives in the gateway standard, or do they have special fronts on them? I have done what you are wanting to do several times, and often you need to replace OEM optical drives, and sometimes the motherboard headers don't match up with a builder case, so you do the best you can.

Format harddrive

What OS are you using?

In Windows, go to the disk management utility and see if the disk is listed. (In Win 7, this is Start > Control Panel > System and Security > Administrative Tools > Create and format hard disk partitions.) For XP and Vista, the directions are similar but do differ a bit. Look at the bottom of the window, to see the list of disks. (Disk 0 is your main hard disk; do not reformat this by accident.)

Assuming the disc is correctly connected to the enclosure and is seen by the computer, you should see it listed as a removable drive. Note: you may need to change the USB port. The MX100 is an enclosure for 3.5" hard disks and needs the AC cord plugged in as well.

You may want to connect and turn on the enclosure when the computer is off, then turn it on. Then turn on the computer. This will hopefully allow the USB drivers to note the new device.

For the Mac OS, look for the Disk Utility.

If you still don't see the drive, check that the cover (and plugs) are completely seated. (Turn off the enclosure first.) Try the hard disk in another enclosure or a USB/SATA hard drive adapter. (If you have a desktop with a free SATA data port and power connector, try connecting the disk directly to the computer. (You need to determine if the enclosure is faulty or the disk itself is bad.)

I hope this helps. Please add a comment with your OS and if you see the disk in the disk management utility, if you need additional assistance.

(This enclosure will work with older versions of Windows, back to Win98Se. However, I don't believe all of those versions came with disc formatting utilities. In that case, you would need a third-party partitioning software (Partition Magic, Paragon Partition Manager). If this disk was in another computer and you want to save the data, try copying the data before reformatting. This may be easier to do with the USB/SATA adapter or the direct connection to the motherboard of a desktop.)

Can I use the Antec MX-25 to transfer files from my PC (desktop)

The answer is yes and no. The Antec MX25 is just an enclosure for a hard drive, you will need to purchase a separate hard drive to put into the enclosure. Think of it like an empty box to hold the hard drive. Once you have it fitted out with a hard drive, you can then transfer files from your PC to the drive and then take them wherever you need.

The hard drive you will need will be a 2.5" SATA hard drive, up to a maximum 500GB in size.

Hope this helps.

Where do I find a driver antec mx-100 for vista

You dont need a driver for this encosure.
However if you have installed a fresh drive in there then the drive needs to be formmatted before use

Also dont connect to older usb 1.0 ports as most of these enclosures dont work well on the older speed USB ports.

You should be able to see and initalise the drive by going to CONTROL PANEL then ADMINISTRATIVE TOOLS then COMPUTER MANAGEMENT then DRIVE MANAGEMENT

Identify the drive and initalise it from there

The antec mx25 doesn't show up on my computer when I plug it in. It's from a busted lap top of mine, and I'm hoping the hard drive itself isn't shot, but I'm assuming that the mx25 would still register on...

Mine did the same thing and after searching through countless google searches, I was ready to take it back. However, when I opened it up to take out my old laptop drive I noticed that the drive was not connected properly. It is possible to simply slide the old drive under the proper connectors where it will seem like it is connected fine. You may notice that it sticks up in the back a bit. Remove your drive and make sure that it slides in and connects flush. Once I did this, I plugged it in before screwing the case back together and my computer recognized it right away. I plugged the red USB into my PC only. Good luck.

KK266 mother board (IWill) need a wiring diagram, usb is not being identified

Antec doesn't make mother boards, they make enclosures. The standard USB connection on the board is a 2x5 pin connector, with 1 pin missing. The end that has the missing pin, is the end that the cable shield is attached to.

I want to pull info off a hard drive & put onto a disc.

If your new computer doesn't accommodate the drive then you will need a three and a half inch hard drive enclosure to put the hard dive in from the other computer.
You will have to look at the drive to work out which type enclosure you will need.
It will either be a SATA connection like this >>>>

Or a IDE/ATA connection like this >>>>

If you compare the connections on these examples you will one has plastic connections and one has brass pin connections.
As soon as you know which type of drive you have you can then proceed to purchase an enclosure.
When you have got the correct enclosure all you have to do is install the drive and connect it your new computer.
You will be able to access the drive, copy your data and use the drive as an external hard drive.

It sounds like the enclosure you're using may be failing or the drive itself could be on the fritz.

Take the enclosure to your local PC shop and have the techs transfer the hard drive to a new enclosre. If it works fine in the new enclosure, buy it and be on your way. If not, buy a new external and transfer(or have them transfer) all of you files to the new drive as the old one is failing and ready for replacement.

Hope this helps FixYa,

P/S replacement in Gateway 2000 model year Tower

Gateway may have a unique non standard pinout for its P/S. I would match up the colors in sequence on the new PS and see if the old harness had the 6 pin connector and graft them into the new harness. The colors are standard for voltage.
