This is a very common and known problem with this particular unit.
The frozen "HELLO" message indicates that the RCA unit has failed to finish its boot up diagnostic sequence. This could be brought about by a failed component (most likely) or a glitch in the firmware (least likely). This would be so if there is no lock symbol likewise displayed.

To try and address a possible firmware glitch, unplug the unit from the wall outlet (if haven't been tried) and allow unpowered / disconnected condition for an extended period of time (say an hour or so).

Should the above be not corrective, options then are:

  • consider a DIY (do-it-yourself) repair if and only if very familiar with electronic components & circuitry, use of a DVM/VOM, a soldering iron/station and safe working practices. Access to a Service Manual or at the very least, a schematic diagram would be an advantage (which is a challenge in itself);
  • should you be uncomfortable with a DIY, perhaps your best bet would then be to seek the services of an authorized RCA Service Center (specially if still under warranty) or a qualified professional.
If you are considering a DIY, initial checks would be for the presence / absence of the different systems voltages in the power supply section with particular attention to the filter capacitors.

The problem is a bad electrolytic capacitor on in the power supply board. The cap is a 470uf 16v (number C226 on the power supply board). Replace it with a 470uf with a rating of 25v to 50v and it should restore the power fucntion to normal. I have fixed six units this way so far.

oR IF YOU'RE NOT TECHNICALLY INCLINED... Call this number. 1 877 805 0519 This is Customer service. This IS a known problem with this unit. They may send a return label to send the player back. The company should take care of it.

Hope this helps you.

You could try resetting it to factory default (while it's off, hold the power button for 10 seconds and release). if "hello" stays on there, the processor is bad. unfotunately, it's a common problem with the rca. if you figure out how to fix it, let me know. i've seen many of these with the same problem and rca says to replace it. figures.

When my tv is powered on, it displays the device menu and continues scrolling through it, but will do NOTHING else. I've tried to reset, and nothing. The tv will not respond to the remote at all.

A suggestion here: If possible to remove front speaker grill and inspection plate that should be behind it---locate the bundle of wires that comes down from front keyboard with the buttons and follow it to the right and down---should be one or two plugs in-line--------disconnect them with the set off and power set back up with remote.

If the problem is gone you have a bad micro-switch on the front of the set------buttons on the keyboard there have priority over the remote---hence you cannot if the problem is there stop it with the remote or do anything for that matter.

Let me know what happens and I will suggest options.

I accidentally pressed a wrong button when I was changing back to TV after watching a video. then the screen became snowy and I'm unable to get back to TV mode. I need help!

Hello rgas,
do you know if you have cable or satellite? Look on your remote and for a button called input or source and click on it. Remember what input it is set on first then try changing through each input. See if you get anything. If nothing still, go back to the original input it was on and change the channel to channel 3. If you have cable or satellite, turn it on. If nothing appears, go to input/source scroll through each input and hopefully you should get a picture. Good luck.

RCA DRC8335 remote not working and dvd/vhs only scrolls hello how to fix and what is code for remote

That is the same problem I had with mine. The problem is not with the remote, but one (or two) of the capacitors on the power supply board. If you can solder you can replace them yourself for a few bucks. You can tell which ones they are by looking at the tops of them and they will be bulged out slightly. The fixes I found mentioned one specific capacitor, but I found a 2nd one that was bad as well. I replaced those and it worked fine, although it will freeze from time to time after constant use, I haven't gotten to diagnosing that problem. I just have been plugging and plugging it back in.

Can't view DVD's burned from the tv on a DRC8335 RCA DVD recorder

If you do not finalize the disc then you can not play it back. Go back to your instruction manual and look under 'setting options'. There should be a choice to 'finalize disc before ejecting'. The recorder will not finalize a disc until it knows when you are done recording, so you have to tell it somehow.

Red "not available" message on screen

The reason the TV doesn't respond to the remote is that the set is busy trying to change channels (or scroll through menu options.) because one of the channel-- up/down "button" is stuck on the front panel of the TV. They are very delicate, and respond to the slightest input. (You should see the CH light on the front of the set.)

So, I had the same problem, and just finished following the advice for fixing this problem by using a hair dryer and pen knife to remove the strip covering the "buttons."

I have to admit that I was afraid of what damage I might do in removing the little strip from the face of the TV, but I only paid $114 for the set at Salvation Army, and it's otherwise a great set, so I had little to lose.

Trust me, you can't hurt anything by removing the little panel. Just take your time, and let the heat do the work, lest you crease the strip. (It took about five minutes for me to get it off.)

I chose to disable the front-panel controls altogether by simply removing the little pads that activate the switches.

The pads look like tiny little rubber bands, about 3/8" across, and will stick to the double-sided adhesive when you remove the strip. (Don't worry, they are not attached to the set, and you won't be destroying anything in this process.)

I suppose you could always get replacement rubber thingies, but I'd just as soon use the remote, and avoid future hassles.
