Sanaui vrdvd 4005 - can't finalize movies - it ruins them completely

My vrdvd 4005 won't finalize the movies anymore. when i try to finalize the movies it acts likes it doing it and then when i check them, they won't work at all anymore. i have over 400 movies that i need to finalize and can't play on another player. any idea what part is needed to fix this problem? i have a warranty and am going to take it in but they are wanting to give me a different unit. i need this one fixed or all my movies are no good and i am out all that money and time on making 400 movies that i can't watch...ever again. please help if you can. very sincerely. mary

neither. the bar that shows the progress of finalization just disappears as if it was completed successfully.

or, the bar will stay on the tv and never leave and then the system is completely locked up and i have to unplug the unit and plug it back in because no buttons will work in this case.

but i need this particular unit to finalize all those movies or all those discs are wasted money and time. so i don't want to get a different unit. i want to make this one work.

is there a way of reloading the software?
i have a govideo that quit taping movies from tv and they came up with a software update and put it on the internet and told us exactly how to make the files and how to install them in the unit and i did it and it worked.

i don't know if it's needs a new part/parts or the software got corrupted like in computers, but i really want to try to make this unit work, at least long enough for me to finalize these movies and then i can toss it.

they don't want to try to fix it, they want to give me a different unit.

i have over 400 movies that i made on this machine that are no good on any other player until i finalize them on this unit. then they can be played on other units.

i tried to finalize these movies on other players but other players don't recognize the files. they can only be done on this unit. so i need to make this unit work only so i can finalize all my movies and not be out all the money for the dvd media and my time in making them all.

    thanks for you interest.

hi, yes, i have actually had to unplug the machine many times because when the bar stays on and does not finish finalizing, the machine is completely locked up and then nothing works. so, yes, i have unplugged the machine. i have left it unplugged for days and then tried again. every once in a awhile it will finalize a disc and then it will lock up again or it will seem like it finalized the disc but when i check the disc to see if it was indeed finalized, i see that it was not. it went through the cycle but did not actually finalize the disc.

thanks again for your interest. it's much appreciated.

  • angeldog59 Jan 21, 2008

you are correct. i can finalize these discs on the same exact unit...if i could find the same exact unit. they do not sell these anymore. i have been looking for the same exact unit to purchase to finalize these discs, but have not found one.

Hi,

Does the player indicate disc finalizing success (or is there some error message)? Usually when this happens on burners, it's a hardware related malfunction (which probably explains why Sansui wants to change your unit).

Did you try power cycling the unit (disconnecting from everything for at least an hour)? I will look into this some more and update you.

I would like to know why you can only finalize the dics in this specific uni. Technically, if you get the EXACT same unit, you will be able to finalize the dics. Please correct me if I am wrong.

Oh, I see....I am sorry for misunderstanding. Sansui wants to send you a replacement but it's another model. Correct? Say, when you open up the discs on your computer what files do you see?

Perhaps you can get a good deal from the seller.

I wish I could be more help and find a way to fix your unit...but unfortunately it appears to be a hardware malfunction...

When you have warranty why do you want to fix it yourself?

Xbox360 console always says it cannot read disc i have tried everything i know to do feel i need professional repair

Hello,

If your xbox360 cannot read discs anymore, you might have a bad lens already. try to use a CD lens cleaner to clean your lens, if this doesn't work, you need to have your lens replaced.

Sansui VRDVD 4005 Recorder

I've had this problem myself and a list of others. FYI, I've found it easier to use dvd-rw discs
for any mistakes you might make. Use Video mode (not VR mode) if you want to watch them
on a Computer or other DVD again and you have to Finalize disc. As for your problem, if all
else is okay, try removing your disc and unplugging the unit. I've done this numerous times
for odd reasons something wasn't working right. I'm not sure how long you have to keep it
unplugged. Try 10 minutes and you'll have to wait 30 minutes or more if you want the clock
to sync up on its own but you can set the clock manually. I've done this for a blinking
REC light in the VCR mode after trying the TIMER REC button.(it shouldn't be blinking
when the unit's working properly) This gets to be a pain and I've had to do this sometimes
2 days later or 6 months later. It's not a perfect unit. By the way, if times an issue, reset the
clock manually as soon as it starts blinking. This will cut your reset down to 11-12 minutes.
Hope this helps.

Sansui vrdvd 4005 - won't finalize movies anymore - just ruins them completely

Sorry but you are boinked. The problem is not that the unit is not finalizing your discs. The problem is that it is not copying onto these these discs. This is an older model unit and it will read 8x but not 16x discs. I started having the same problem and found this information out on another web site.

LAPTOP DVD DRIVE WONT PLAY DVDS ANYMORE

Drive is on its way. Typical behaviour. Try air dusting lens but unlikely to fix it. Very easy diy repair and cheap. EBay the new disc drive or refurbished. Then go to youtube. Nearly all laptop drives are the same to replace no matTerry brand. You could even get a faster drive.
