Thats how the laptops are planned. They have to go off if left alone for a long time to save power. The battery has a limited time and hence the need. However if you want to change this setting then you must goto Control Panel->Power Options->Power Schemes. Here when you take a look around you will fine where to do what. There are a number of options, with power connected. not connected etc etc. Choose the one that you like best.

How to open hp laptop in sleep mode

This is a common problem on HP computers but also has many causes. If your laptop is not coming back on after being put into sleep mode, it could be a software issue among a few other things. If your computer has a hibernation mode I would suggest using it to get around the sleep mode issue. This mode will save everything the way it is and shut down completely. When you restart the computer it will open up just as you left it. Just like sleep mode except with a restart. This does not solve the sleep mode problem but easily provides a power saving alternative to it.

How do i test the power button on a toshiba equium l40 laptop

OpenControl Panel, Power settings, Advanced Power settings, change SLEEP to Never, Hibernate to never. Shut down and unplug, if you use mostly on AC, remove battery, your laptop when not in use. It will last longer, if there is a power surge not be damaged, and a reboot every day resets the computer.

Goes into sleep mode will not come back on for 2 weeks or longer

It might be setup to go into sleep mode if it is left idle for a certain period of time. To change the settings click the following(I am assuming you have windows vista or windows 7):
Start,Control Panel,Power options,Choose when the computer goes to sleep(look on the left side),Then adjust the settings to what you wish by clicking the black arrow there.
Also check the "choose when to turn off the screen" in the same spot you clicked Choose when the computer goes to sleep.
