Hi

Thanks for using FixYa. From what you have described it seems that you have to replace the convergence IC and check power resistor for leakage, if values are not exact replace them. The typical cost to get this fixed by a pro is about $300 - and it doesn't mean that he/they will do a job better than you do. The parts are less than $100 (about $20-$30 for the IC's) if you want to do it yourself. Replacing only the IC's MAY solve the problem; however, many people have also had blown resistors requiring replacement. Why would you ask should you replace both of the IC's if only one is shot?! If one is shot the other one is not far away and for that little price of the chips it worth changing them both at the same time. Also the convergence board should be checked for cracked solder. If you replace the ICs and the resistors are shot, the ICs may blow again almost immediately, meaning you may have to do the repair twice.

Please do accept the solution if the issue is resolved or else revert for further assistance.

Thanks

Rylee

Hi.
This is actually a Magnavox tv, but Philips-Magnavox is all one company so it's ok.

The tv is a Magnavox model # PTV515-AH01

This is a 46" projection tv.

This model is no longer made, as it is older technology, but I am sure that there is something of equal size and quality available for you to get.

I would probably get something like a Panasonic Viero tv.
They have excellent picture quality, multiple inputs, hdmi jacks, and have a good warranty as well.

They usually run around $450-$550 U.S., so they are a great value.

I hope this helps you out on your decision today, good luck to you, and have a good day !

Magnavox rear proj (model# 8p6044 c102) pic is cloudy/green tint

Yes the coolant gets crud buildup in it over time which will cause the color and clarity to get very poor with obects that will glow around certain bright ojects. You can get the Phillips CRT coolant replacement kit from www.tvrepairworld.com which has the CRT coolant for all 3 CRTs and also includes the Cd with instructions on how to do the replacement.

Power light comes on and goes right off

Take a look at the blue round capacitors. They stand on end and about the size of a dime and 1/8" thick. They should be by the highvoltage transformer. That's the plastic box with a spark-plug wire sticking out the top. The circuit board should have numbers printed by the parts. Look for c811 or C8** . The C means capacitor and the 800 numbers means the circuit it's in. This is a horizontal output capacitor your looking for. You will see it burnt. Might not be blue...could be yellow or orange. But you should know what kind of capacitor to look for by the description I gave. This seemed to be a problem with these sets....or atleast one problem of MANY. If it's not that, then you need big time service. I wouldn't waste your money on a Magnavox. They just don't hold-up to repairs very well. If you find the burnt part, let me know what the location is...C8**....and I'll tell you what the value is. You won't beable to read it if it's burnt. Now atleast you know what your looking at. Sometimes if you have someone turn the set on while you look at the board in a dark room, it will spark. Hope that helps. Good-luck.
