Question about Computers & Internet
This is a 2002 laptop, 7 years or more old, are the ide controllers for the hard drive on the motherboard on a attached printed corcuit board[pcb] or are they built into the 20gb hard drive which came with the laptop and should the cmos battery be 7.4 volts as new cause the cmos clock is not keeping time and when i checked cmos battery the voltage was 3.4 volts. With this ambios and intel 815em chipset i am told that the 20gb hard drive is the largest hard drive i can use with this motherboard, is this correct, please advise on these issues.
Any 20GB disk-drive has built-in drive-electronics,
which interface with the IDE hardware on the motherboard of the laptop -- typically, laptops do *NOT* have "plug-in" adapters for such "basic" functions, unlike desktops, where you can change video/audio/network hardware via add-in cards.
You probably can use any disk-drive that is _smaller_ than 32GB -- disks larger than 32GB require newer motherboards, due to the larger capacity of those disks.
