All the usb portts on my compuiter will recognize almost any usb device i plug im to it except for flash drioves or external hard drives. i have a wireless keyboard, and mouse that work fine as weel as my speakers a wifi signal antenna and my cell phon that are all pluged into the computer using the usb ports and they operate fine. i have tried all the usb ports and i get the same message in the bottom right corner of my screen stating thatmy usb devive did not properly and may not function as a result. the weird thing is that every once in a while my flash drive will work but thats not the norm. it's not a bad port so could iot possibly be a setting that i didn't know i changed?

First change usb cable if you use to connect hard drive.
When you power up the computer press F8 key then enter in "Safe mode".
Then right click on my computer click on property then hardware->device manager.
Uninstall all usb drivers 1 by 1 .
Then restart computer then check.
Let me know if you need further assistance.
Thanks for using FixYA.

How do i get my computer to recognize my usb flash drive

If your device drivers are up to date, the USB ports are totally recognized. If the USB device plugged into the port is not initialized, it may not be recognized by the computer operating system. If a USB flash drive was working and no longer works; it could have been damaged when removed from the computer when last used. Flash drives are sensitive to Static Charge. Like when you rub the feet on a carpet and a spark of electricity jumps from a finger to another person. You must use the Eject method when removing Flash Drives.

Im running win7, and it does not recognize this device which is a usb hub 4 port

A lot of times it won't recognize these devices until you plug something into them. Have you tried plugging in a flash drive, printer, etc to see if it's recognizing it but not showing it?

Ok I experienced this problem before..try to plugged your phone to the other usb port of your laptop try it at the back the power of the usb port there is sufficient to make your device to function properly..I tell you this because some of the usb port except from the back of a pc CPU gives insufficient power to a usb device that can make the usb that was plugged in it not work properly and not recognized by windows.

I just bought a new Gateway NV53 laptop but my P4350 Lexmark all in one printer does not recognize any of the USB ports.

Did you check whether the USB ports are recognizing other USB devices such as Microvault or Flash Drive? If all other USB devices are recognized except the Printer, then reinstall the USB Drivers. You can uninstall the USB drivers from the Device Manager and restart the Computer. The USB Devices are listed under Universal Serial Bus Controllers in the Device Manager.

First thing you need to do is to know that the USB ports of your laptop is really working. Insert another usb devices or storage such a flash disk. If the flash disk being inserted is not recognized by the system then the usb port you had inserted is malfunctioning or it is defective. But if the other usb devices like the flash disk is working then your new bought mouse is defective. Try to plug the usb mouse to the other ports available in your laptop.

I plug in the sundisk cruzer 2.0 GB USB device and all it does is blink. It will not show up on my computer for the drive.

Hello

If the computer recognize that there is a device plugged into the system, then just try to plug the flashdrive into another port at the back of your case.

If the computer does not recognize that there is a device plugged in, there is a problem with your flash drive. It still gets power from the computer(Bliking light), but there is no data transfer between computer and flash drive.

If it is still under warrenty, send the flash in for repairs(presuming that your USB ports work), otherwise try and see if it works on a other computer. If it does, the the problem is with the USB ports on your computer. I really hope this can be of help.

Best regards
Andrea

USB not working

if the usb detects other devices and not your drive, the drive itself may be faulty. If you plug in other devices in the usb and it detects them the usb drive or its connector is most likely bad.If it won't detect any devices the port is bad and drivers won't help.Possibly a motherboard issue.

I've seen this happen with hubs being connected to external hard drives before.

Do you have a free usb port on the back of your computer you can plug it into?

That should fix the problem.
