Question about SanDisk Sansa e250 MP3 Player

System refreshes and says not enough space free up 6gb. Used to have a chip. refresh comes on at every restart. computer sync, windows media player, does not recognize the device sometimes.

Hi there,

Well first of all you can try to reset your player to factory default settings -

try the following -

Open "My computer".

Plug your mp3 in.

Right click on your mp3 hard drive on your computer

Click on "format..."

A screen will pop up and say "Quick format" Then click quick format then hit the start button. Then it will say stuff about completely reseting and and warning you.

Windows 8 has a neat utility that is called "Refresh Your PC". This process does not change any of your files (documents, pics, vids, music, etc.). If you upgraded your PC from Windows 8 to Windows 8.1 and your PC has a Windows 8 recovery partition, refreshing your PC will restore Windows 8. You'll need to upgrade to Windows 8.1 after the refresh has finished.

To refresh your PC

  1. Swipe in from the right edge of the screen, tap Settings, and then tap Change PC settings.

My sansa e270 6gb is frozen and wont go past the refresh database screen what can i do to erase all the data that is on it and start all over


I'm always hesitant to give this answer, because if it's done wrong, you can do more damage to your player, but the answer is: you need to format your player. I would format the player from inside the player's settings menu - but if it's stuck on Refresh database, you may not be able to do this. Follow these steps in order:
These are the most common methods for recovering Sandisk's Sansa Mp3 Players. I have been almost universally successful in recovering Sansa players using one or a combination of these methods. These methods do not work if you are having synchronization or music format issues - they are for recovering a player that will not power up, freezes, flashes, is not recognized by the computer, and a host of other issues.

Reset the Sansa Player first. On most models, restart is done by holding the power button in for 15 seconds or longer. Check your specific manual to be sure. The manuals are available from the Sansa website if they have been misplaced.
Download the Sansa Recovery Tool from the Sansa website.
Format - Erases Everything: Connect your Sansa player to the computer and open Windows Media Player. Click on the Sync tab. Pull down the drop down menu underneath the Sync tab by moving your cursor over the Sync tab and left clicking on the little black arrow underneath the Sync tab. Highlight "Sansa 1GB" (wording may vary slightly), and then select "Format." - this should erase everything.
Firmware Upgrade- Erases Everything: Get the latest firmware upgrade from Sansa - it updates the firmware and erases every song in the player all at once. If these fail, then:
Try this: disconnect the player from the computer, turn it off, hold in the volume + button, and reconnect the player to the computer while holding the volume + button in. Keep holding the volume + button for an additional 5-50 seconds. Windows should eventually go into recovery mode and revive the player- it will pop up a window that says Found New Hardware Wizard.
If you get the problem where MTP Device keeps popping up continuously, uninstall the “MTP Device” by going to Start à Control Panel àSystem à Hardware à Device Manager (you computer may vary slightly, depending on Windows Version).
You may have to restart your computer after each of these methods to get them to work properly. Disconnect your Sansa player BEFORE shutting down your computer.

Disable music auto refresh


Disable auto-sync in Windows Media Player and it will stop doing this.

Setting the Refresh Rate in Enable VGA Mode - Windows XP

You will need to go into Enable VGA Mode to change the refresh rate.
  1. Restart the computer and repeatedly tap the F8 key on your keyboard until the Windows Advanced Options Menu appears.

  2. Select “Enable VGA Mode” and press Enter.

  3. If asked to choose your operating system just press Enter.

  4. Once the computer has finished booting up go to Start -> Settings -> Control Panel -> Display -> Settings -> Advanced -> Monitor.

  5. Change your Refresh Rate/Refresh Frequency to a lower setting.

  6. Click Apply to confirm the change.

  7. Close all open windows and restart your computer.

Sansa e280- files added via WMP10 or Windows explorer, but don't show up on player


No limit on the Genres.

If you keep adding music in different modes, Windows Media Player and Windows Explorer will not show the correct free space.

Theres a good chance you have too music music on your device and the device does not have enough free space to create the Database, or the songs, artists, album, etc.

Try deleting a few songs from the device with Windows Explorer and disconnect the player and let it restart.

If that doesnt work, you can FORMAT the device to remove all of the music and start over.


To format in My Computer>Device name (e280)>Right Click and select FORMAT.
