Question about Dell A920 InkJet Printer

3 Answers

Am trying to install my dell a920 on vista - am i wasting my time? it seems to be reading the document i am trying to print from Word, but it shoots out a blank paper (after making noises that sound like it's really printing). refilled the black ink today and the color ink cartridge is full, but it prints totally blank. it worked fine with my last laptop, and it seems like it should work being that when i hit print, the paper feeds through the printer, but nothing is coming out!! help!

I went to that website. It's the same one I was at last night and earlier this evening. I clicked on the Windows Vista 32-bit option, and it gave me three downloads (Dell - Application; Dell-Driver; Dell-Patch upgrade). I placed all three in the file to be downloaded. There's a tab under Dell-Patch that had "more download options" listed, so I clicked on that since I hadn't tried that last night. It said "Vista upgrade assistant procedures" as a PDF, so I also loaded that. All four files showed that they loaded successfully, but the paper still is not printing. The dell printer is selected as default. After it not working so many times today, I also deleted the printer and uninstalled the driver from last night, so this should have been like starting over. Every time I restart my computer, it tells me new hardware found...locate and install driver hardware. Not sure why that keeps showing up. And I haven't clicked on it because I've been using the dell website instead. But, seems like it is connected if the paper is actually going through the printer...don't get it! Thanks! :-)

installed each one - though i don't see anywhere on there where it says it's for scanner, printer, copier. just had three downloads available that i downloaded. though i went to uninstall dell driver program beforehand, when i installed the three downloads, it said those files already existed. i replaced them and did one at a time with the USB disconnected. it never asked me to connect. then when i tried to print, the printer did not show. so i connected the USB, and it said "found new hardware" again. i tried to follow that link to download the driver and it dead-ends.
then i went to control panel, and added a printer (local printer). i chose USB 2 as the port...have tried USB 1 as well with no success. says that it successfully loads the printer, and the paper runs through again, while making noises that sound as if it is printing, but again, a blank page.
anyways, i have to go to bed. i will check this in the morning...not sure what else to do.
    thanks.

Hi,

Have you Got any Error Message on the Display?

If Yes, let me know Unless Read Further.

Now, There could be many Reasons and mostly i have found the Drivers or the Settings that Might cause this.

Keep your Printer Unplugged for Few Minutes and then Turn it Back ON, say after 30 minutes. Keep all the Output Devices Unplugged. Is that Resolved the Issue?

If not,

Reinstall all the Drivers and Make sure all Connections are Tight and Secure.Make sure you have the Updated Drivers.

Use User Guide to Make sure it is all Set. The User Guide You could Download the Guide from ;-

Hope i helped you.

Thanks for using ' Fixya ' and have a nice day!!

Try cleaning out the spyware and adaware that may be messing with your printers drivers, click below to download the free Adaware program

http://download.cnet.com/Ad-Aware-Anniversary-Edition-Definition-File/3000-8022_4-10706164.html?tag=mncol

Also try this free program that will clear out the registry
http://download.cnet.com/Abexo-Free-Registry-Cleaner/3000-2094_4-10434886.html

If you have refilled the printers cartridges more then two times then you will need to replace them with new ones, for some reason (based on my experience with printers) they will go blank and not print even after they are refilled

Now reinstall the drivers and software for your printer

Before you install the drivers,do a self cleaning and scan alignment first.

Make sure it work by itself on copier mode.

I would remove the USB cable.

Uninstall the drivers / DELETE printer from OS

    Shutdown Vista

Install all driver one at a time.

    LEAVE A920 usb cable disconnected

WAIT until the driver ASK you to connect the A920 to the USB port.

Run cleaning utility

  • Clean the Ink Cartridge Nozzles
    • 1 Load printer paper into your Dell A920 Printer.
    • 2 Open the Dell Printer Solution Center on the computer. Click "Start," located in the bottom left corner of your computer. Select "Programs" from the menu displayed. Click "Dell printers." Click "Dell AIO Printer A920" and then click "Dell Printer Solution Center" to open the Dell Printer Solution Center.
    • 3 Click on the "Maintenance" tab and select the option that says, "Clean to fix horizontal streaks."
    • 4 Click "Print." This will print a nozzle print page, which forces ink through all of the nozzles to clean and unclog them.
    • 5 Print a regular document again to see if the print quality has improved. Repeat the cycle up to two more times to improve printing quality.

My dell a920 printer wont print

    Try this:

Open your "Printers and Faxes" folder in the Control Panel (which you find by clicking on the Start button of you computer).

Double click on the icon for the printer you're having trouble with (Dell A920 in your case).

In that little box that pops up it shows all the documents that are waiting to print. Click on the Printer tab in the upper left hand corner and hit cancel all documents in the drop-down list.

Sometimes it will erase all but the last one, and it will forever say "deleting."

If that's the case, restart you computer go through the same steps I just outlined before trying to print anything else. Usually this will fix the problem of print jobs waiting in line to get printed.

To help prevent this problem in the future, watch real close whenever you try to print something, and when you see it isn't going to print, hit "cancel print" real quick before it gets bogged down and stuck. Then make sure there are no document "in queue" (as per the instructions above) before you try to print anything else.

    Hope this helps!

    Dell A920 with Windows Vista

Believe it or not... the driver is buried on the Dell site for Vista 64-bit. I search and searched ... and there it was.

    http://support.us.dell.com/support/downloads/download.aspx?c=us&l=en&s=gen&releaseid=R153048&formatcnt=1&libid=0&fileid=203948

In any case, I downloaded it, installed it, and it works fine. All the buttons (scan/copy) on the top work as well as printing. Now if I could just get my old XP machines to print to it on the network. But.. I think that is another thread.

Flashing Green Light/ Computer can't communicate with printer......

Hi. The flashing code signifies that there is a fault with the connection between the ink cartridge and the printer - usually because either the tape is still on the cartridge or maybe some glue from the tape still on the contacts. In my case, I think the cartridge was simply knackered, so I threw it away and opened yet another ink cartridge. It now works fine.

If you want to test yours, simply take out both ink cartridges, and re-insert them one at a time. If you've put a working cartridge in the flashing will stop; if you've put the dodgy one in it'll still flash. Just replace the dodgy one.

    Hope this helps.
