I have a cq60-dx615 laptop. After 1 yr it started freezing, and then wouldn't start at all. When I turn on the computer the battery and power adapter lights come on, but the disk drive light is dim...

if the fan is dead and the old HDD is pure silent the power pack is dead. (battery out)
no OS stated, then post questions, why> , why make it impossible to help>/ let me guess the virus magnet XP? or worse older?
some are vista and w7 fitted... must I GUESS THIS?

dead laptop 101, (generic)

runs ok battery out, BINGO !
BIOS works? that is first not windows EVER, BIOS works.
does it?
you do know BIOS works with CD drive and HDD drive out right>?
if not the power pack is dead, or the mobo regs are dead.
you can pull ram sticks and run them 1 by 1 to see if one is toasted.
there are many modules on all LT MOBO, that can short out.
a tech pulls them. to learn that.. fact. bingo?

what a tech does is strip it down to near nothing here
to get BIOS alive again. if its goes live the fan spins, see?
if BIOS is dead, all PCs made are dead. hopeless.
BIOS does the boot and hand off to HDD< see?
focus like a laser on BIOS....! and win.

you typed the model wrong, so is now 2 times harder to help you.

its just a filler page, the service guide is NOW MISSING
so i cant spoon feed you the BIOS hot key
but the black screen page here tell it.

F1, F2, F10 and ESC.
If you boot a working PC (no hdd, no cd drive needed)
you will get a text message. from BIOS
telling the above, secret.

every way on earth to get a black screen or silent pc or dead bios is there. (seems so)

How to Reset an fujitso cmos and BIOS Password

This is for Fujitsu Laptops. that does not boot up, Reset and remove the password.
  1. Unplug the power cable and remove the Laptop battery.
  2. Open the back of your laptop where the bios is located using a small philips screw driver.
  3. Remove the Bios Battery for 1 minute and then put it back in and return the back cover of the laptop.
  4. Put back the Laptop battery and plug the power in.
  5. Turn on your computer, sometimes you'll get a black screen even when then power is on.
  6. Let it stay open for 5 minutes.
  7. After 5 mins. Turn off the power and then turn it back on.
  8. Your Laptop should now boot up with the bios password.
Goodluck. Hope my solution will help. Thanks for using Fixya!

I have an Advent 6651 Laptop and it wont power up all the lights come on (both power lights and the Webcam light) the screen doesnt turn on and the cooling fan doesn't spin.... I have tried removing he RAM...

This is a pretty common problem with this model laptop, sadly. It sounds like you've done some reading on it.
Have you tried removing the BIOS battery, waiting 1 minute, booting up without it in place, then replacing the BIOS battery?
Next best thing is to talk to Advent's tech support and try to get them to repair it since it appears to be faulty cooling. If you are within warranty you'll have a shot.

The display turn off after few minutes (blank screen, no message). When it does that, the power led stay green. When I turn it off and on, the display work again for a few minutes and the same problem...

jackperson, Might be internal problem with the units power supply (ac line in to DC conversion) having shutdown issues. You will need to do some reading in my fixya profile for a while and then you will know what to look for inside unit. If not into electronic repair stuff, skip the reading and trade-in unit for new, if current unit is 4, 5, 6 years old. 12fixlouie

I tried to get computer back to factory settings and now i turn it on and the screen is black,it sounds like it is running though, and also the 2 lock buttons light up when turning it on..please help

Follow every step carefully!

First format an USB stick with FAT.

Download the latest BIOS, and put both FLASHIT.EXE and the BIOS file in the root directory of the stick. Rename the BIOS file to ZG5IA32.FD, that's important. Do not remove the USB stick.

Turn the AA1 off, make sure both battery and AC adapter are connected. Press Fn+Esc, keep it pressed and press the power button to turn the AA1 on. Release Fn+Esc after a few seconds, the power button will be blinking. Press the power button once. The AA1 will now initiate the BIOS flash, do not interrupt it under any circumstances. After a while the power button will stop blinking, and the AA1 will reboot shortly after. Wait patiently.

The BIOS has been flashed and all settings reset to default.

If for some reason you made a mistake during the procedure and it doesn't reboot by itself wait 5 minutes before turning it off, just to be safe that it isn't still flashing the BIOS.

HP Presario V2000 Laptop Turning off after a few minutes on

Sounds more like the CPU is over heating. This is a fairly common fault on laptops after dust hair etc build up in the fins of the heatsink from the cpu.
After it blocks up, the fan can not push air through it to cool the cpu down and so the laptop goes into thermal shutdown to protect itself.
