Re: sub woofer

Is there a gain control on the sub? If not, are you using a receiver or pre/processor to control volume? There could be a level adjust or on/off control for the subwoofer output.

Can I and how do I hook a subwoofer to my Sony str-de705 receiver

It depends. You can connect an active (self-powered) sub-woofer to the STR-DE705. You can't connect a passive sub-woofer that needs power from the receiver. If the sub-woofer has its own power cord, then it's an active unit. See for more information. You'll also need a RCA subwoofer cable. This is like a RCA audio cable but only has one plug on each end. (Using a regular audio cable may risk a short when the extra plugs hit something.) Many subwoofers will come with the audio cable. If you do need one, they are available at most places that sell cables, including .

Here is an example of an active subwoofer: . This is the Yamaha YST-SW012.

I hope this helps.

Yamaha rx-v2500 receiver how to hook up speakers

Follow these steps to connect a powered sub woofer to your receiver: You typically have two options when connecting a powered sub woofer. Input (1) on the rear of the sub woofer would be used when connecting the sub woofer to the receiver using speaker wires. You would then connect the main speakers to the opposite end, or output or the sub woofer to the main speakers. Option (2) would be using RCA line level output jacks, input (2) on the rear panel of the sub woofer directly to the single sub woofer output on the back of an AV receiver. blank.gif

I'm making an assumption: that you're using a powered subwoofer as required by this receiver.

Since the RX-V463's amplifiers don't drive the sub directly, and it supplies the sub's amp with only a Line Level signal, the impedance of the sub is irrelevant.

I have connected all speakers but not getting anything coming through the subwoofer? I have connected all of my existing Sony suround system speakers 4 corner and one middle and the sub woofer to the...

You need to use an amplified sub. The Yamaha receiver is only sending "Pre-Amp Signal" not amplified audio like the rest of your speakers. If your sub has a crossover built in, connect it's speaker level (wires) to the "B" side of the receiver which will send audio to your sub and it will cross it over internally. Not the best sounding, but it works. Amplified subs range in price from 200 and up. Hope this helps

How do I hook up a non powered sub woofer on my htr-5630?

You will need an amplifier or 2 channel receiver. Hook the sub out rca jack to the rca inputs on this new amp or receiver and hook the speaker terminals on sub to speaker terminals on same amp or receiver. Your Yamaha receiver doesn't have any power for a passive sub.Just pick up any old fairly high powered receiver for fifty dollars and you're good to go.I use old dolby pro logic receivers as they are a dime a dozen today. Good luck.

I own a Yamaha RX-V461 and since making a few changes, new Bravia TV and BLu-Ray DVD player, I no longer jhave sub woofer output. I bought a new sub woofer cable and even bought a new Polk 8" 300watt sub....

You can reset the settings to factory defaults via the Advanced menu - it should be in your manual (I have RX-V465).
Do it from the standby mode.
Press the STANDBY button on front panel (not remote) together with STRAIGHT button on the front panel. Now you are in the Advanced Setup. Scroll to the INIT menu and select ALL.
Now you will have all settings in the default.

Connection of a subwoofer to Yamaha ZX-V490

Get a powered sub-woofer that has speaker level inputs, then run your front speaker wires into the sub-woofers speaker level input and then run a set of speaker wires from the sub-woofers speaker wire output to your front speakers. This is a common way to use a sub-woofer with a receiver that doesn't have a sub-woofer output.

Most powered sub-woofers have these connections, just check it out first before you buy one. They look like speaker jacks on the back of the receiver.

Let me know if you have any other questions.
