I have a deep scratch in one of my doors on my Buick. I bought the touch up paint but I'm not exactly sure how to apply it. I have used touch up paint many other times with many cars and it always seemed to come out crappy (even when i wet sanded and took my time). Can anyone help me with this with the steps and/or details? I found a few other sites online but each seems to have different steps and some are using spray paint. I'm going to use the small brush or roller ball touch up paint. Another question, what grit sandpaper should i use? Is 1000 grit OK?

If you are using a mere touch up kit ..i would recommend for about 15-30 cents buying a model paint brush the bristles are much smaller than what comes in the bottle and no you wont need to sand it at all after application it will look very dull but put it on and allow it to simply apply to the scratch only ....unless you know someone in the paint dept...and ask for a bit of clear to mix into the paint it will look dull upon finish

if you are good at airbrush i would suggest merely filling the scratch in just as i described earlier ...unless you are going to actually paint the entire area then your talking blending into either the adjacent areas or merely blending into the area around the scratch ...what ever way you look at it touch up paint will always look dull upon finish

How can i remove scratch from the bodyof my car without spending lot of money

providing scratch isnt too deep you can buy a cutting compound from local factors and polish out. If a little too deep for this you can take back with a super fine wet and dry paper of around p1500 grade with plenty of soapy water first and then compound out but be careful not rub through to primer so very much a game of patience and compromise. If scratch is deep follow same instructions but day or so before touch in scratch to fill the scratch with paint and then carefully compound outer excess touchup so you simply leave paint in scratch.

Best way to fill in a deep scratch on car door caused by what I assume was a key...?

At Canadian tire they sell paint that comes in a pen type canister. has a ball point end and a brush. use the ball point end and just trace the scrtch with the paint pen. (exact match paint) this will hide the scratch well, but for best results. do a few coats. letting it dry between each time. which doesn't take long. and it will built the paint up flush to the original paint. when its dry. wash and wax over the surface.

Scratch on car paint.

It sounds like it hasn't scratched through to the metal yet so you could:

1) Respray the whole panel to remove all unsightliness.2) Touch up the scratch, resulting in quite an ugly repaint.

How do i remove the door panel?

remove remote mirror control if installed
remove door and window handles. Allen key required.
remove the cup insert used for closing the door
carefully remove door panel by slowly progressing all the way around by prying with special tool or us other tool that will work being careful not to scratch painted metal work by using folded up piece of cloth, towel etc.
Above applies to Pony Door panel but standard would be much the same

Need to protect deep scratches from rust until I can repair them

i quick and cheap way to do it is to go to the paint section of wall mart and pick up a spray can of clear coat and spray on top of the car where the scratchs are. be sure to clean and dry the area first and spray at least 2 coats on. if the scratchs are realy deep and you can see the metal ensure there is no debrie, moisture or rust starting to form.

A scratch on a new car.

At large auto parts stores, there is a wax product, color match , that works well. Also a reputable body shop should be able to buff out the scratch.

Bumper cover

it depends how deep the scratches are you can use an epoxy to fill them in then sand them smooth with emery paper. when you paint it make sure you have a paint that has a flex agent in it because it's plastic and will flex and the paint will crack if it does not have an agent in it make sure to prime it with a primer that has the same agent in it. please rate this thanks

760 sedan scratch

It depends on how deep the scratch is. If it's shallow and only into the clear coat, it can generally be buffed out with compound and you'll never see it. If it's deep to the touch and goes into the paint to where you can see metal or undercoating the you will have to have it sanded down, smoothed out and repainted.
