This error message means that the computer cannot find a boot-able device such as the hard disk or a boot CD or boot floppy disk.
This fault means it cannot boot up from the hard disk, it could be faulty or needs re-seating to make proper electrical connection.
Try re-seating the hard disk (ie remove and insert it back).
If this doesn't work then boot up the computer and go into the BIOS setting and see if the hard disk is detected. If not then the disk controller is faulty or most likely the hard disk is faulty.
To determine if the hard disk is faulty, remove the hard disk and connect it to an USB hard disk adapter and plug this into a working computer's USB port. If this computer cannot detect it as an external hard drive and you cannot open the folders and files, then this confirms the hard disk is faulty.
To get the computer operating again, the hard disk needs to be replaces and Windows installed on the new hard disk together with the computer's device drivers and the various programs.

THis error comes when your hard drive not recognized in bios.
For that make sure your hard drive is detected in bios.
When you power up the computer press F1 or F2 or "del" key to enter in bios.
Then disable SATA option in Ide configuration .
Then save and exit.
Then If still not detected in bios then you need to reattch hard drive in to laptop.
For that you need to open back cover of laptop the reattach hard drive.
Let me know if you need further assistance.
Thanks for using FixYa.

#1. Verify there are no disks in the floppy or CD drive.

#2. Get into the BIOS and set everything to default.

#3. Have a friend create a boot disk for you or, if you have a program that is self booting, use that to get in.(i.e. Windows)

Borrow a bootable Windows 8 DVD from a friend. You do not need his/her Product-key numbers so maybe ask for a burned copy.
Boot the DVD and Windows 8 advanced repair should be able to repair.

Screen reads no bootable device

Your hard drive has an error, it has either lost it's boot sector or the drive has failed, If you don't have much technical computer experience i would advise getting a computer tech to look at it.

Turn on acer laptop and it goes to black screen that says no bootable device

First - re-seat the harddisk and reboot the computer. If the computer does not boot up then reboot andgo into the BIOS configuration to see if the BIOS detects the hard drive. If itdoesn't detect the hard drive then it could be faulty. Then the hard drive needsto be replaced in the computer/laptop, Windows installed and the computer orlaptop's device drivers plus your programs etc. to get a functioningcomputer/laptop again.

I have a acer (aspire) notebook. And a couple of months ago i was playing on it and it had a blue screen. I got scared and didn't go on it for like a week. A week later i went back on it said acer on...

No bootable device means your computer is trying to boot from a storage device and it's unable to find the operating system. Check the your system BIOS to see if your computer is still detecting your harddrive. To do this:

1. Reboot your comp. While it's coming up, keep hitting "Delete". This will bring up the Set Up.

2. Using the navigation keys of your keyboard, navigate to the tab that says "Boot Preferences" and hit enter.

3. Switch the boot device to your harddrive and save your settings then reboot.

4. If your harddrive is not being detected, it's either loose or has gone bad. In which case it would be best to have a tech take a look at your notebook.
