If you have a timer recording scheduled, the "A" version has a software
problem when trying to finalize disks. I would return the unit if it
is under warranty, especially if it is under warranty.
If it is not, you have several options. Open the unit and make sure
that the ribbon connectors are seated firmly. Purchase a replacement
DVD writer from Magnavox and install it yourself for about $70. Return
it to Magnavox for repair. Get it repaired locally.
I have had excellent luck with the Sony DVD+RW disks that are made in
Taiwan. You might want to check the package and determine if they are
from Taiwan or elsewhere. If you have a PC that has a DVD writer,
check the problem DVD's in the PC.
I think it is your Magnavox, sorry to say.
VR mode or Video Recording mode is a feature on stand-alone consumer and computer DVD recorders that allows video recording and editing on a DVD rewritable disc.
In VR mode, users can create and rename titles for the scenes. Also, if a scene is deleted, the space allocated by it will be utilized later without the need of reformatting a disc.
If the user would like to record on the same disc again at a later time, in VR mode, users may eject the disc and it will not be finalized by the recorder until it is manually initiated. For the sake of comparison, any DVD disc recorded in VR's competitor V mode (or Video mode) will be automatically finalized before it is ejected by the recorder. Disc finalization is still required if the disc formatted for VR mode will be played in another DVD player.
Currently, users can only record in VR mode with the use of DVD-RW, DVD-RAM and DVD+RW discs, (updated in 2000 to accommodate DVD-R (General)) [DVD players marked “RW compatible” and “DVD Multi” can play DVD-VR recorded discs] and on some recorders, also on hard-disk drives.
Once a DVD+R or DVD-R has been finalized, it cannot be edited again. You are stuck with whatever you have. On the other hand, you have to finalize the disc to make it playable on other DVD players. The exceptions are DVD+RW, which, according to the manual, does not have to be finalized, and DVD-RW, which you can "Undo Finalize" in the "SETUP/Disk Edit" Menu
Are you using a DVD+RW disk? Unlike DVD-R, DVD+R and DVD-RW disks you cannot finalize DVD+RW disks on the Magnavox MWR10D6 DVD Recorder. Instead you have to make the disk compatable [Make Edits Compatible], this allows you to close the disk and play it on other DVD players.
go to: Setup ==> Edit Disk ==> Make Edits Compatible ==> Yes
Other than this nothing else comes to mind to troubleshoot this problem. Hope this helps.
