I've had this for years and it stopped working recently. I took it apart to see if I can fix it. It appears that it will try to spin whe the disk is inserted but fails. If I move the disk with my hand about 20 degrees either direction, it will start up and it will read and play fine. In fact, I could just shake the thing left and right and it will spin and get going. It's almost as if the motor has a bad section where it gets stuck or something. What do you think? If so, where can I get replacement motor?

if you can't send the xbox back to Microsoft this worked for me.
The 360 would spin the game up and say reading but than stop and do nothing.
I took the case apart, took out the cd drive, took that apart so i could get to the laser.
put a little big of very clean water on a q-tip, wipe the laser lens down and use the dry side to dry it off. put it somewhat back together and test, this worked fine for me, it read a disk no problem.
As my brother has had a similar problem in the past. You can try going to the store you bought it from with your receipt and request a replacement or refund. If that doesn't work, you can send it in to Sony.If you don't have a warrant,There a repair fee,but it's cheaper than buying another PS3.
Drained the water from the tub into a bucket. Since the water flowed through the disharge tub I knew there were no obstructions in the line. I then took took the discharge pump out and took it apart. Turned out to be a bobby pin in the motor that was jamming the impeller.
Put it all back together and it works just fine. Took me about 2 1/2 hours total to diagnose and repair.
you could try taking it apart then clean it out ie dust or sand but i recently took my old phone part like yours and decided its easier to buy someones broken phone(ebay) like yours with a cracked lcd or something and use the key board from that phone to yours.
sounds like you need to clean the laser lens. Try using a disc cleaner first and if that dosent work then take aprt and find the laser lens, take a clean q-tip and put a little alcohol and swab the lens very carefully Good luck
