Re: dlink di524 wireless configuration problem

The SSID is the name you assign to your wireless network. It has nothing to do with your DSL modem. You may assign anyhting you want to the SSID. The SSID will appear in the list of available networks on your wireless computers.

Make sure you also configure encryption (WEP or WPA) on your router. When connecting to the wireless network, you PC will ask you for this key.

No signal

How old is the unit? Have you reset the unit (Power reset)?

If the signal comes back on after doing a power reset, I would recommend changing the unit. It could be dying on you. Had a similar problem back with the same model, no matter what configuration I try internally.

You can try to upgrade your firmware, this might solve the problem also:

Forgot my DI 524 setup password, pushed RESET button, what next?

You will need to login as admin and set it up again. Connect per ethernet cable, open a browser and enter You should see a router welcome screen or logon dialog login as admin the default password maybe one of several things depending on the particular revision/edition blank/null 'admin' 'password'
Support for this model is available at manual at
Once you're in you will have to set up an ISP connection which may require your ISP username / password and selecting a protocol particular to your ISP and setting up the wireless WEP key

Connecting with internet

Yes, that is possible since you have a wireless router. Router can share internet connection. Go to this link this will help you setup the wireless connection (secure it if you want) then on the very bottom there is an option how to Configure Windows XP to connect to your wireless network.

I suggest this because it would be better if there is encryption on the network so people wont be able to access your internet for free (unless you give them the security key)

Dlink di-524 connect to RV042

You need to cascade the Dlink wireless router to your RV042.

Suppose your RV042 has a default IP Address of, and the DLINK IP uses Your Physical connection is from the regular port of the RV042 going to the WAN/Internet Port of the DLink wireless router.

Once you do that, your Dlink router should automatically obtain an IP from the main router. If it did, configure your wireless settings and you should be able to connect via wireless.

This is just one way to cascade your router to another router.

Everything is working very well on my di524

To my knowledge, the only password that could be set/changed is when you log into to your DI524 web configuration page. Once the WiFi router is setup and running, you can also changed. There is no password required for your wireless clients (users). There is however a provision for Security key which could be WEP, WPA or WPA-PSK. All of these could be accessed upon entry to the web configuration page of the DLink DI-524.

This page is an emulator that can help you be familiar how things are done to configure your WiFi router.

Hope this be of initial help/idea. Pls post back how things turned up or should you need additional information.

Good luck and kind regards.

Thank you for using FixYa.

Router not working, help please!

You may may need to configure your D-Link to use your type of internet! Try following the Quick Install Guide which can be found here: The WLAN light doesn't come on probably because you have the wireless disabled, which can be re-enabled once in the configuration for the wireless(in the document mentioned above) If you are having any difficulty following the guide or have folloed the guid and still can't connect, please get back to me regards, babb
