Question about Dometic Rooftop RV Air Conditioner

1 Answer

I have a dometic Roof Top Rv Air Condtioner and the evaporator coil is freezing up. Could the unit be low on freon. I also noticed the evaporator coil had a noticable amount of dust build up. My thought was to clean the coil however it is very dificult to get to the coil from the inside?

It freezes because of a lack of air flow ... and/or ... colmplicating ... high demand with high humidity.

Even worse is running the roof top with the door open in the summer (I see this all the time in the RV park where I work - I'm not saying you are doing this - but I see it all the time. What the heck, the typical transient camper is not paying for the electricity - let it run!)

I hope this helps you

Rv heat pump problems

Open circuit or out of range Freeze Sensor. Air conditioner mode of operation will be locked out. Furnace, heat strip, heat pump and fan mode of operation can continue to operate but displays the last temperature set-point. There is a sensor that detects evaporator freezing, it may be bad or your freezing because of low freon levels

My coils inside of my Dometic roof top ac keep freezing up. How do I clean it? Thanks John

You can buy some coil cleaner at a heating and air supply. There are several brands. Some have to be rinsed off others don't. Use the kind that doesn't have to be rinsed on the evaporator coil.

What is the a/c charging pressure on roof top r/v units?

The easiest way to charge a unit is to add freon to the low side until the line sweats and the coil is sweating top to bottom. The pressure depends on the wet bulb temp on the low side line the ambient temp outside and the intake temp inside the
RV. A good unit will start to sweat between 50 to 78 pounds on the low side. good luck

If the Air comeing out is the same as the temp inside the RV make sure the compressor is running and not just the fans. It could be low on freon. If freon is ok then you would need to ck the wiring to the selector switch for a short. It would be obviouse because there will be melted wires. I am leaning toword low on freon since you have already been inside the wiring/control unit.

Roof top a/c is freezing up what can be done?

Check the refrigerant charge. A low charge will cause it to freeze up. May need to have some added. Also check for dirty air filters and make sure the evaporator coil is clean. A restricted airflow will cause it to freeze up also because the air isn't transferring heat in the evaporator. Let me know if this helps.

Dometic Quick Cool compressor freezing and evaporator coil

Could be low. First check air filter, air flow, and evap coil to see if it has restricted airflow. If all seems well, its probably low. The specs will tell you what type and how much refigerant. To access system, you will need a gauge/manifold set, refrigerant, and a piercing or line tap valve for the low pressure side of the system. Of course, first, you need to locate and repair the refrigerant leak.

My rooftop RV Air Contitioner keeps freezing up.

The evaporator coil is dirty or the unit is low on refrigerant. Try cleaning the coil first. If it is low on refringerant, it can be expensive to have them serviced. Some of these units do not have service ports so you have to add them. This racks up the costs. Good luck!
