Question about Sony Playstation 3 (PS3) Console
You have what is called the Yellow Light Of Death. There are one of 2 ways to fix this. Click HERE for the do it yourself fix. (THIS FIX SHOULD ONLY BE DONE BY PROFESSIONALS OR THOSE FAMILIAR WITH ELECTRONIC EQUIPMENT. FIXYA, GLIKSY, NOR I TAKE ANY RESPONSIBILITY FOR ANY DAMAGE OR COSTS YOU MAY INCUR WHILE TRYING THIS WITH YOUR PS3, WORK AREA OR TOOLS.)
Or there is the more logical. pull your drive, slave it to your PC, and back it up. Then call Sony pay the $150 and ship it back to them. Or if it is under warranty just call them and ship it back.
ANY DISCS LEFT INSIDE WILL BE RETURNED WITHIN 3 WEEKS AFTER THE RETURN OF YOUR UNIT. ANY DATA NOT BACKED UP WILL BE LOST AS THE UNIT IS REPLACED WITH ANOTHER REFURBISHED ONE.

Your PS3's problems are actually being caused by a connection error between the hard drive and motherboard. Without a correctly working hard drive connection your PS3 is unable to function and goes into shutdown mode, with the flashing red light warning.
So in order to fix the blinking red light on your PS3 you will need to repair the connection between the HDD and the motherboard. There is actually a rather simple way that you can do this yourself; while your PS3 console is switched off, locate the hard drive enclosure on the end of your console. Remove the plastic cover plate, then using a screwdriver unscrew the hard drive itself from its socket. Carefully remove it completely, then put it back in again. Tighten the holding screw, then restart your PS3
