Question about Projection Televisions

1 Answer

Vertical green lines

I purchased a panasonic pt-61lcz70 lcd rear projection tv. A week after buying it I started noticing green lines on the sides of the screen. The lines appear exactly where the screen cuts off a non hd picture. Is this normal with projection tv's? Should I call panasonic? Should I exchange the t.v. and risk getting another one with the same problem?

Re: vertical green lines

Call where you bought the TV. This is not normal for an LCD TV. They should exchange it only being a week old.

It looks like a problem with a tube (projector light) I suspect the green one. Pay attention to flickering on the lights and post me the results.

My Panasonic PT-61LCZ70 keeps shuting off

Most likely problem is bulb failure. Replacing the bulb is first step in any LCD rear Projection troubleshooting.

PT-61LCZ70 has a special "Super Dooper" long life lamp that costs a ton to replace. US users have 5 year warranty on the lamp assembly. Canada users can whistle for help from Panasonic Canada. There is no replacement bulb available, only expensive lamp assembly.

TV has to be completely taken apart to change the lamp. Panasonic service information is 12+ pages for lamp change instruction.

Check Panasonic Lamp Gallery for an image of this lamp assembly.

Hi , it seems you are experimenting a light engine problem. Here's how your tv works: Basically there's 3 LCD chips that create the colors and image by blending together. When these chips start to melt you will get those blue spots, pixilation even vertical lines. You will need to replace the light engine. You can find it here: Have a blessed one!

Green line running vertically along the edge of picture

If its a LCD projection TV (such as Sony Wega, Hitachi, Epson, Philips, and some Panasonic, some Mitsubishi), and the green image is in the whole screen or just one part as a blob or a line. Is most probably that one of your LCD Color Filters is damaged (burned out or starting to get busted), I don’t know if you can just replace the color filter, I believe you need to change the whole light engine system or the optical block. There are some places around, I found some on ebay but you should definitely try on discountdashmerchantdotcom their price range $260.00 - $330.00
