Question about Refrigerators

Whirlpool ET19DKXFW01 water dripping and heavy frost

I have a similar problem with what appears to be water dripping into fridge from freezer, also now have heavy frost buildup in freezer. I noticed over past several days I have condensation drops on fridge ceiling, with ice formed on what I want to call a cowl (looks like a gear assembly) on center back area on ceiling of fridge also. It continues to cool in freezer but fridge part seems a bit warmer now than usual.
Thx
Jay

Water drops from the freezer compartment of my maytag fridge drip inside the fridge

Please confirm if there is heavy frost formation within the freezer. If so the condensation can cause the water to drip as the door is opened. If the fridge is not defrosting then it is possible that the auto defrost timer is faulty, the fan is not working or there is block in the path. Power off the fridge for few hours to defrost , check the door gaskets, check for fault in the thermostat if the fridge does not cut off.
Inferance from the above tips will give you an indication of the fault as it can relate to any of the above.

Have you tried it after letting it defrost for a couple of days . It sounds like it was just frozen up. If the freezer is still working then it is the defrost drain is frozen up.

Hi pgtc;
Just check and make shore the door seals are completely sealing. If air is been sucked into fridge it shall create water, same as freezer frost is created by air been sucked in.. Oh thats as long as the freezer is working -18deg.. Cheers

WATER LEAKING FROM FREEZER VENTING INTO FRIDGE

Normal 0 MicrosoftInternetExplorer4 st1\:*{behavior:url(#ieooui) } /* Style Definitions */ table.MsoNormalTable {mso-style-name:"Table Normal"; mso-tstyle-rowband-size:0; mso-tstyle-colband-size:0; mso-style-noshow:yes; mso-style-parent:""; mso-padding-alt:0in 5.4pt 0in 5.4pt; mso-para-margin:0in; mso-para-margin-bottom:.0001pt; mso-pagination:widow-orphan; font-size:10.0pt; font-family:"Times New Roman"; mso-fareast-font-family:"Times New Roman";} Your evaporator coils frost up in normal use and every eight hours or so the entire unit shuts down and the defrost heater comes on to melt the frost. This cycle last about 20 minutes. The melted frost drips into a drain pan and through a drain tube to the drain tray under the freezer/refrigerator where it's evaporated by the condenser fan.

Your drain tube may be stopped up with ice at the upper end because it drains too slow because it's stopped up at the lower end in the evaporator pan under the unit at the floor. It can get dust and mold in it. Once you get the ice out at the top a little pressure with a turkey baster will usually clear it out. Flushing it out with hot water and clorox may help.
Make sure it drains quick enough to prevent refreezing. . The drain should be located below the evaporator coils on the lower back of the freezer.

Constant Defrost causing water accumulation problems

Yes! look under you fridge for the consendate drain hose *(usually dangling right over the catch tray) and using a long piece of slightly heavy guage wire snake up the drain hose and see if it's blocked.

If it isn't blocked you might have a crack somewhere in the fridges interior near the fridge/freezer interface. That might be a bit harder to spot since it would most likely be under cover.

Good luck and be careful.

Water accumulation underneath the bottom vetable

Two solutions
1 If a frost free fridge/freezer - ice build up in internal cooler - defrost totally until no more water
2 if ordinary fridge/freezer look inside at the back, you should see a very shallow 'V' shaped plastic channel running to a small drain hole which leads to the rear outside of the unit. This channel collects the water drips from the cooler
Clear this hole with a pipe cleaner or cocktail stick or similar
