Question about HP Officejet 4215v All-in-One Printer

Problem with my hp officejet 4215v all-in-one printer

HELP. I'm having trouble w/my printer. I had a friend - also a computer tech check it out and he believes the problem is my computer--not the printer. But - he's not able to fix the issue, so I'm posting here hoping for help.

I have an hp officejet 4215 v all-in-one printer. I don't currently use the fax or phone.

I wish I could remember when I first noticed problems w/it and could think of any changes that happened at the time, but I can't.

I did an unintall and re-installed from the CD. It appears to be downloading and set up progressing as it should. Then the "Hardware Wizard" comes up and says "cannot install this hardware. There was a problem installing hp officejet 4200 series. An error occurred during the installation of the device. The RPC server is unavailable."

Also - when I right click on the printer icon and click on properties, I get this error message. "Printer properties cannot be displayed. The print spooler services is not running."

But when I go to "device manager" they are both set to automatically run.

At one time during all this I also received this message. "C:\windows\Explorer.EXE
Function address 0x7c917c43 caused a protection fault, (exception code 0x000005) some or all property pages may not be displayed."

Another thing I've noticed on the printer display is says "fax", previously I think it said "print". I do not have it hooked up to a phone line, at this time I don't need the fax or telephone option.

My friend believes all these problems are with my computer, because I was going to just buy a new printer, but he doesn't think it would solve the issue and I would still have the same problems.

If anyone has any ideas or suggestions, I would really appreciate your help. Or-If I have posted in the wrong forum, please let me know - or forward this to the correct forum.

I have a Compaq Presario 6000, XP w/updates, I use Firefox as my browser and AVG.

    Thanks for replying, but system restore is not an option. All restore points were deleted Monday, December 7, and my printer has not been working for over a month..

I believe your tech is correct. Here is a web page that I have used often to resolve printer problems.
The process is pretty simple in a nut shell, you do the following:

  1. Download the latest printer driver for your printer from the manufacturer web site〈=en
  2. Disconnect the printer cable from the computer
  3. Uninstall the printer driver
  4. Remove the printer registry entries
  5. Install new driver when prompted, connect printer cable.

The issue is not really the computer but it is a case of your printer software not behaving normal. This could as a result of corruption of some sort. Now it is possible that if you buy a new printer, whatever is affecting/corrupting this software could still go on to affect the software of the new printer.

So it is better to tackle the software end first. Now there are two things you could do and I will suggest you try/execute them in the order I am presenting them:-

1. Uninstall your AVG, restart your PC and try reinstalling your printer. (AVG is known to confuse setups for virus these days. I do not know if they have resolved it though; it still happened to me up till last month).

2. If that does not resolve it, run system restore. System restore restores you PC to a predetermined time (when the PC functioned in the areat in question properly). All you need is to remember vividly sometime/sometimes back when the printer worked perfectly. Set the restore time to that date and the PC will restore and reboot. If done well this will resolve the issue. This procedure does not touch your files (leaves your files intact). To restore go to start/all programs/accessories/system tools/ system restore. The restore dialogue box comes up. Just select a date. You may check the box for "earlier dates.' To select a preferred date, then click "restore/start' and the PC will do the rest. At the end just try to print again.

My hp 4215v printer keeps saying paper jam on my computer, I have taken off the back and there is no paper jam how can i clear it from my computer.

first open and close the front panel
disconnect the data cable(usb, lpt)
if problem exist
its may be there is something pushed the sensors that check in/out going papers like piece of paper or somethinge else

I cant my hp officejet 4215v all-in-one to install to my windows xp home edition computer

look into the internet for download as it is free. You can look up HP download that it should be no problem this time. Try that and see for yourself. I did mine with HP on window 7 - HP printer download. All is fine, smile!
