Even if your printer's front control panel display has not gone bad yet, it could only be a matter of time.

If your printer has never had its control panel display replaced, you can get a free replacement from Xerox, even if the printer is out of warranty. Just call 877-571-7765 with the serial number of your printer.

I think this is due to a known defect from the factory for many of these panels having a bad soder weld which eventually causes issues with the panel, even if not apparent at first. That was the case I had. Just one day out of the blue my panel went blank, some days its lit with no display others the display is upside down or reading gibberish other times it seems to work fine. I tried looking for a bad soder myself but couldn't find it then later found out there was a soder issue via another post on this site and they will replace this panel free of charge.

The inverted, blank, or garbled display is pretty common, a new control panel will fix that and is super easy to install and no tools required. Here is a video that shows how.">

I get a print out from start up which says "Hardware Failure: Front Panel Data path failure (16.4). What is that?

Here's a link to the error codes, note the 8550 codes are on the right side. (See POST codes.)
16.4 is a soft error code, i.e. doesn't prevent your printer from starting up, but generates a printed report. "Control panel data path failure, bad data returned." See page 4 for instructions recommended in this case.
You can access a remote dignostic tool from Xerox for your machine here., and here are support center instructions.
Here is the home support page for your model.
There may be firmware updates available for your printer that could help to correct some issues.

I hope this information allows you to resolve this issue. If you need further assistance, please post back with a comment to this thread.
If I've managed to answer your question or solve a problem, please take just a moment to rate this post....thanks!

Xerox 8550 hardware failure front panel data path failure 16.4

It sounds like the display panel has gone bad. Possibly the text is garbled or only half shows up??

If you contact Xerox and tell them, I believe they will send you a replacement display panel - even if your printer is no longer under warranty -- IF your printer has never been sent a replacement display.

I've had this happen on several of these printers - I believe they know there is an issue with the display panels, which is why they are sending replacements for free.

I find the easiest way to contact them is to go through the support section at xerox.com and search for that error, then hit contact us at the bottom of the page. It'll ask for your contact information as well as the serial number of your machine.

Slide the pencil down the white channel guide until the sensor is tripped. A sensor change is displayed on the control panel. When the flag is depressed, the front panel will read <color> Ink Present H. When released, the reading will change to L. The test will only display a reading when a sensor change occurs. If a flag is stuck, no sensor reading will be displayed on the front panel. If it doesnt change states you need to replace the ink loader

Xerox phaser 6250 NVRAM Failure

Cycle power, try cleaning the CTD (ADC) sensor and toner full sensor. This is what Xerox has to say about the NVRAM failure: On the front panel, press the key labeled i to view information about the error. Record the error code number. Turn off the printer. Reseat the fuser. Reseat the imaging unit. Reseat the toner cartridges. Turn on the printer. If the error continues to be displayed contact service.
