SOURCE: Discs I have recorded I get the disc can neither be played nor recorder, and it erases what I have already and already watched.

I have the same unit. Similar problem but mine does not erase the disc. It says disc error on almost all dvd that are store bought and kicks them out. Will play almost all of the ones I recorded on it and finalized. I must let a disc in it at all times or door will not open. Lots of bad stuff on the net about this unit. It is a lemon! Mine is out of warranty and sony wants $175 to fix. Saw some blogs where it was serviced 3 times and still not right. Buy a new one before investing in the unit you have as there are many gremlins in it! Sorry I cannot offer specific help but this is where I am at!!

SOURCE: wont play dvds, only cds,

DVD & CD use different wavelengths for the read head. I suspect that the blue laser is out of alignment or otherwise in need of repair.

PhotoCD is a format.

Take, if good  batteris from the remote controller and recycel the unit, and by a better one. I have the  same problem, recordings will stay on the dvd only a short thime readable and later the disk is empty.
Sorry my english.

SOURCE: will not play back disc recorded on this machine

Welcome to the club. My dvdrhd04 is going into the shop tomorrow. I too was overwhelmed with vhs tapes and was excited to transfer them over to dvd...Now I'm unable to watch them. sigh. It was playing the purchases dvd's fine, but recently started stalling and clicking loudly.

I'm too chicken to try the repair myself, so I called on a computer tech to do it for me. I'm going to have him replace the dvd burner, hopefully internally, thus the reason I'm online now, doing a bit of research to hopefully help him out.

I'm not sure what the best type/brand of dvd burner to use, but the ones I've seen so far are relatively inexpensive. They range from 32.00 to 62.00..depending on the type...I even saw a blueray for 152.00, but i'm not sure if it will work in our unit.

Mine started ignoring certain brands of dvd's..then quit reading the ones I recorded...now the door won't open...I think it's time for a new dvd drive. I spent too much money on the unit to trash it, and the hard drive works great, I just can't burn off my favorite shows. I really love the thing so for me it's worth trying to save it....especially after seeing comparible units listing for over 400.00...gotta fix what I have.

I've also heard that the fan isn't big enough and that the heat is what is messing up the burners. I may ask my guy about that tomorrow and see if there is a better fan or if maybe using a laptop cooling pad will help...I'm game. At the moment, I can't remember if there are vents in the bottom. hummmmm. It's just a thought for you. I'm sure you've done a bit of research and seen that many people have had issues with the ilo's and now that the company is no more, we pretty much have to rely on each other for help. Thank goodness for the web.

Try a new dvd drive, & maybe a cooling pad that is not usb powered. hopefully this will help both of us.

SOURCE: Liteon DVD recorder LVW-5045 has disc inside and won't open tray

Use your knuckles to knock on top of cabinet just above disc tray door while at the same time pressing open button,99% of the time disc tray will open. The problem you have is caused by a worn out belt drive or the tray is out of alignment. The disc tray belts only cost $2,when tray is open you can see the minature belt that controls door to the right.Use twizzers to remove and replace.Belt size 1.9

Why does not the philips dvdr3480 record?

I would start with the dvd format used for recording, the simplest being dvd+r and dvd-r. Does the unit play a pre-recorded dvd and/or cd? If not, the laser assembly would be the first suspect. The delay in reading discs can be a sign of a borderline laser. Is your record overwrite function turned on, this overwrites previous material when starting each new recording when using +-rw discs. Verify if a format is required for the type of disc used for recording, page 45. Is the correct country/region selected?

Hi, please find above your user manual and your service manual below/
http://www.fixdevice.com/smanuals/file/38174.html
OK perhaps you may need to now upgrade the firmware or re-set up the player again using the service mode, please find all this info in these manual above. It may just be co-incidental, or perhaps your laser assembly is going faulty. Often though, it has to do with CODECs not being installed. or activated, you need to check your manuals for information.
I would wonder if the swap out, hasn't reset all your playback settings? Or the Brain, is thinking it is a differing unit now? and setting it up again may just fix your problem. Anyway please use the service and repair manual's troubleshooting procedures you should be able to isolate and hopefully repair your unit.

Wont read dvd+r

This is a pretty generic problem with dvd recording on combos. The problem is that after you record to the dvd there is a procedure that is on your menu using your remote to finalize the recording so that it can be read on different players. Otherwise it can only be read on the one you recorded on. Go through your remote control menu options after the recording and look for the option that indicates finalize recording.
