Question about Maytag Neptune MDG5500AW Gas Dryer

1 Answer

DRYER WON'T HEAT.

My Maytag dryer Model MDG3000AWW was not drying my clothing very well so I pulled it out to clean the lint traps all the way through the line. I looked in the hole in the back of the dryer and saw a lot of lint inside of the dryer. I reached in there with my hand and was able to get a whole bunch of lint out of the inside of the dryer (is this normal). I think went I pushed the dryer back into position, I jarred a wire loose because now it won't heat at all. I need to get into the dryer and I took all the bolts I can see out but I don't understand how to get the one piece (three sided) panel off. PLEASE tell me how to do this. I know I can fix this by putting the wire back in it's slot and cleaning the rest of the lint out of the inside of the dryer. THANKS.

Ok facing the drier front open thee door and remove the bolts around the door panel there are four of them two on each side then grasp the front about 3 inches down on either side to disengage the side retain clips tilt the panel back toward you and lift it up to disengage the bottom clips remove the front panel and if you need to lift the top remove the screws on the hooks on either side at the top and take the hooks off then you can lift the top that should give you plenty of access to do what you need to do

Run the dryer for 2-5 minutes. Check to see if it has heat inside. If not, you have an internal problem.
If heat is generated, check your dryer lint trap. It must be clean before every dry cycle to dry properly and efficently. If the trap is clean and heat is generated, check the tubes behind the dryer for disposing of the lint.

My 1993 Maytag Clothes Dryer heats up, turns but does not dry the clothes unless I place an absorbent towel in with the items. It sweats water from the bottom of the dryer. What is going on?

To dry clothes, we need 2 things:
1-heat to evaporate the water from the clothing
2- adequate air flow to exhaust the moist air, thereby drying them.

Your heat seems to work.....if you stop the dryer mid-cycle, the clothes should be hot.

It sounds to me like you have a lack of air flow through the dryer. If you can get to the exhaust vent grill outside, then see if you get a large volume of air coming out of it. If not, then look for the louvers stuck closed on your outside grill, or any kind of blockage in your ductwork.

Perhaps undo the vent at the back of the dryer TEMPORARILY

Dryer is not drying the clothes

If it is taking a long time to dry, but still has heat, try cleaning out under the lint trap. Take the whole lint trap off and clean the panel and path the lint is sucked through. I did this to mine and it made a HUGE difference! There was a ton of lint packed around the panel and only a small opening left where the air flowed into the exhaust.
With our dryer (Maytag) I had to take the front panel off to get to the area where the lint was.

My dryer runs but no heat.maytag neptune gas dryer.

Hi there,

Well if your dryer tumbles, but there is no heat then you may please check out the following -
1. First of all you can check out for proper air flow - Check the vent for proper air flow by placing your hand over the exterior vent while the dryer is running. You should feel a strong flow of air. If not then check the lint trap. It is located either on top of the dryer or possibly just inside the door. Remove any lint that has built up in the lint trap. Cleaning the lint trap should be done regularly, even as often as after every load. Do not operate the dryer without a lint trap in place.
2. Secondly you can check out the Ignitor - gas dryer blows air through a burner assembly to heat the air. The burner assembly consists essentially of a gas valve, ignitor and a flame sensor. If any part of the burner assembly malfunctions, the result will be low or no heat and slow drying of the clothes. Post comments for further help or information.....
Good Luck!!

My lint trap has very little lint.

Older clothes do not produce as much lint as new ones. Also, if your dryer isn't getting as hot as it used to, then you won't get as much lint either. Does it seem to take a bit longer to dry your clothes? Also, check your dryer vent, if the airflow is reduced, the amount of lint that is expelled through the filter will deminish as well. You may have a build up of lint in the vent ducting to the outside that is restricting airflow.
