My HL2040 printer is printing black vertical lines along the right-hand side of the page, about 3" or so. A month ago I took it apart and cleaned the roller. Still doing it.

If the lines go all the way down the page, check the position of the corona wire cleaner tab (blue or green) at the top front of the drum unit. if not parked fully to one side it will create a solid black lines where it blocks the laser. Otherwise look for some other foreign object (or torn paper piece) that may be blocking the laser from the drum. If the lines are thin and shark, check for scratches on the drum (not repairable without replacing drum). If the lines are uneven thickness but in a pattern that repeats down the page every few inches, then the film on the drum is probably worn or wearing away and the drum needs to be replaced.

Right hand side of page has 1-1/2 inch horizontal streaks down the side

The scanning bar has 28 leds on it and on my 4100 the 6 leds on the right side were flashing on and off,it could be abad connection on that part of the scanning bar caused by a jamed paper.
to tell if your machine is a printing problem or a scanning problem print out the help menu {press the reports key then the 1 key} if it prints clear then every thing with the print cartrige is ok and the problem is in the scanning part of the machine.

Toner is printing on right hand side of each page printed

Most likely it is the drum cartridge. The other causes such as toner on the laser optics would not produce an on again off again print area. It would be blank the entire way down the page. Since the toner prints in patches down the right side it means it is coming from something that is "rotating" and that narrows it down to the drum.
Good Luck and Thank You for using Fixya.

Try doing "start", "control panel" then "click on printers & fax's", & when you get it open to the "icon" that shows your printer", right click on the printer in use icon, & you get the drop down menu", try clicking on "properties", you should get a "pop up box" with a line saying, "printer is busy", & maybe even written several times, click on & delete all of the lines, if that don't do it right away, turn off & unplug ur power cord until you hear a "noise from ur printer", this is "resetting & releasing it", (probabIy less then a minute, maybe even reboot the PC) printer will not print until you get rid of these "commands", I couldn't be more "precise", on getting the "box", to appear, as it will only "come down & appear", if ur having this problem, hope this helps....Don
