Question about Acer AL2032WD 20" Flat Panel LCD Monitor

1 Answer

Acer AL2002W Monitor

We have 3cords-ac power cable, VGA cable to Computer, and DVI to computer. However, there is no place to fit the DVI cable in the back of the computer.

Monitor was working fine all powered up. We attached a different mouse and all of the sudden the monitor went blank saying "no VGA signal check DVI cable". There is no spot to plug it in and it was working fine before.

We have a DellGX 240 tower. At school and help desk isnt open till monday. Tried to read manual but a little confused. Thanks

Re: Acer AL2002W Monitor

For DVI you need to probably upgrade your cheap graphics card, something not that expensive would be a ATI Radeon HD2400 Pro, it'll do. May want to check what pwer supply maybe required on your PC.

What is the best way to connect 2 computers to this monitor

If you have two separate computers for different purposes, such as personal and work use, you may find it convenient and necessary to connect both to a single monitor. Many monitors have dual inputs, making such a connection simple. However, you might need a keyboard, video and monitor switch to accomplish this task if the monitor lacks a second input. Dual Inputs
Step 1 Examine the back of your monitor for the presence of dual video inputs, such as a single VGA and DVI or HDMI output.
Step 2 Connect the VGA cable to one computer. Plug the other end of the cable to the matching input on the monitor. Rotate the retaining screws until tight at both ends of the cable.
Step 3 Plug the DVI or HDMI cable into the back of the second computer. Insert the other end into the monitor's digital video input. Screw down the retaining screws if you're using DVI.
Using a KVM Switch
Step 1 Ensure both computers are turned off. Place the KVM switch on your desk where it is within convenient reach.
Step 2 Locate the video output port on the back of the KVM switch. Plug a VGA cable into this port. Plug the other end of the VGA cable into the monitor.
Step 3 Plug the VGA monitor outputs from each computer into the inputs on the back of the KVM switch. Tighten the retaining screws down for each connected VGA cable on the computers and the KVM switch.
Step 4 Plug the keyboard and mouse cables into their respective outputs on the KVM switch. Plug each set of keyboard and mouse cables from their ports on each computer into the matching inputs on the KVM switch. Plug each cable in sequentially to avoid mixing them up between machines.
Step 5 Double-check that the mouse, keyboard and monitor cables leading from each computer all correspond to the right machine. Plug the KVM switch's power cord into a nearby AC outlet or power strip.
Step 6 Turn the computers and monitor on to verify the connections are correct.

Required Items

  • VGA cable
  • DVI or HDMI cable
  • KVM switch
  • Power strip (optional)

My monitor is blank, the Acer logo will flash on when I start it but cannot get a signal, have tried it on another machine same response.

I am not too sure if you have tried this but this might help, for what i know your monitor have 2 ports for video (DVI and VGA). VGA is the one with color blue adapter, while the DVI is white. If your using VGA for both computer might be you can try DVI or from DVI to VGA. Also try a different cable for both VGA and DVI. If still the same might as well contact the Acer and check the warranty, normally monitor had 2-3 years of warranty, Have it replace if still under warranty.

I hope this works on your issue.

thank you for choosing Fixya.

Connectivity card from montior to CPU is different than other PCs, in back side of the monitor its showing to type VGA and other one DVi connector, In my CPU i dont have the slot for the DVi connector,...

DVI ==> Digital Video Input
If your monitor has both DVI and VGA inputs,
and your PC's video-card has both DVI and VGA outputs,
then buy a DVI-to-DVI cable, and use it, for a better picture.
If your monitor has both DVI and VGA inputs,
and your PC's video-card only has VGA output,
then use a VGA-to-VGA cable.
Or, purchase a video-card with DVI output,
to replace the video-card with VGA output,
and then use a DVI-to-DVI cable.

Connectivity card from montior to CPU is different than other PCs, in back side of the monitor its showing to type VGA and other one DFid something, In my CPU i dont have the slot for the other type DFi, ...

I believe you are referring to a DVi connector. We have different types of connectors but none of them is DFi. We have VGA, HDMI, SATA, and DVi connectors. Here's a cheklist of what you need to do:
  1. Check the connector of the computer whether you have VGA, HDMI, SATA, or DVi
  2. Check the connector of the monitor whether you have VGA, HDMI, SATA, or DVi
  3. Now that you know the type of connectors you have for your system, you know what cable to buy.
It does not really matter if your computer and monitor have different connectors. We can purchase cables with VGA - VGA, HDMI - HDMI, DVi - DVi, VGA - HDMI, VGA - DVi, HDMI - DVi. So, don't worry and thank you for choosing FixYa!

Computer won't recognize monitor driver

Its the usb, if u connect the monitor via the standard port, the vga port, it will work. If your monitor only have an dvi cable you can fix that by an adapter. That adapter should be an DVI to VGA.

Good luck to you

DVI input on monitor not working

Contacted viewsonic about this issue- they suggested- have both dvi and vga hooked up to same machine. start with poweroff on both. power on monitor, then power on computer. when you see display coming from the vga, power off pc, then disconnect vga cable, turn off power to monitor, disconnect power cord from monitor for 5 + seconds, reconnect power cord, power on monitor, then power on pc.
If this doesn't work to get the dvi working, (as happened to us) we returned our monitor for a replacement, since it was still under warranty.
