Question about Maytag MGR6772 Gemini Gas Kitchen Range

Broiler glow bar stays on

I am replacing the glow bar on the bottom of the upper burner. For now, i swapped the bottom oven one to the top oven until I get the part. In the process of checking everything out, i set the broiler. Once the oven heats up, the broiler comes on normally and lights. I noticed however that the glow bar stays on, even after I left it for ~5 minutes. This doesn't seem normal to me. Is it? If not, what should I replace? I imagine there is a temp sensor to know when the gas has lit, but I figure if that didn't pick up the fact that the burner has lit, it would have turned off the gas.

SOURCE: Gas Oven - no flame at Bake Baffle - Glow Bar glows fine

If the glow bar is working (glowing) it is the gas valve. BUT, the glow bar can also actually glow and still not be working 100% and letting enough current through to the valve. You could swap an identical valve out to check it, if you don't have a meter. It's more than likely the valve though.

My Maytag Gemini Gas Range works fine as far as the four burners, the bake on the top and bottom oven, but the broiler on the top oven does not work. Is this a pilot issue? I really appreciate the help,...

If the broiler burner is not coming on it may be a bad ignitor or the ignitor may not be getting power. Observe the ignitor when you turn in on ans see if it glows at all. If not then test for power to the ignitor if you have power and not glowing or lighting replace the ignitor. If it glows but does not light the ignitor may just be weak replace it.

Oven does not light. Top ignitor glows red bottom

Since BOTH oven manifolds and surface burners are usually fed from the same source, this is probably the result of failed igniter(s) in the oven. This is assuming that your surface burners are working, or course. If you are trying to light the BAKE manifold, the broiler manifold is used on some model to speed up the pre-heat process. So, you may see the broiler attempt to light as well. If you have tried using only the broiler by itself and it still does not light, you may have a weak igniter on that manifold as well. Double check your symptoms.

If this is a GAS range, as these igniters age from repeated use, they can become weak and longer function. If you are experiencing ignition problems, the following link explains a little theory about how these igniters work and how to replace one:

The burner manifolds in the oven each use a glow bar or electrode type igniter with a gas safety valve to ignite. Both oven manifolds are controlled by the Electronic Oven Control (EOC) board, which is your clock/timer on the control panel. If the surface burners work, but the oven does not, the problem is usually not a gas related issue. It can be a control board issue, but is usually a weak or failed oven igniter.

Replacement parts (if required) can be purchased at any of the following websites:

Prices vary between these sites, so shop and compare. The first three sites listed also offer helpful exploded view diagrams to help you locate and properly identify the parts you need.

If you have any questions please post back with a complete MODEL NUMBER and let me know. I hope this helps you.

GE jgs968 range seems to be working fine except the oven, broiler works fine

OK, it is likley that the oven ignitor isn't working and needs to be replaced. To verify if this is the problem, when you turn on the oven to BAKE and set the temp at say, 350. Watch through the window, (or you can have the door open). Look at the bottom, back, center and see if you see a bright orange glow appearing under the bottom panel.

If you don't, that is why the oven won't lit the gas. There is an ignitor for both the broiler burner at the top and for the bake burner in the oven compartment.

The good news is that your oven uses the same ignitor for both the broiler and bake burner tubes, so you could swap them if you wish to confirm that is the problem before you go and order/buy a new one. These aren't cheap at $91 bucks, but you can shop around the web for a better price if you determine you need one.

Please note that sometimes the ignitor burns out half way through but because it still lits/glows, people think it's OK, but it won't get hot enough to signal the gas valve to open and allow gas to ignite and get the oven cooking. That's why it's always a good idea to swap ignitors to verify you have a faulty one.

If you want to see what the part is for your oven, go to and enter in your model number to view the line drawing for your oven along with the parts list.

Hope that helps and best regards!

Replacing Igniter on Hotpoint RGB528PEAWW Gas Kitchen Range

you should have a broil glow coil at tol and one on bottom. to access the bottom, open the door and look to the back on the oven floor. ther should be a srew one on each side remove and lift bottom up. you should be looking at the glow coil. i would also remove the pan drawer for would be abnormal for bth the broil and bake to fail at the same time. if this is the case i would confirm power is leaving control to the selected glow bar. they shoul pull about 3.2 amps. then i would focus on the valve. which is opened by the amp draw of the bar. one wire on the valve is common and the other feeds from the control through the valve to the glow bar
