Mitsubishi 55513 horizontal roll problem

I have a Mitsubishi WS 55513 RPTV. I developed a problem with the display going into a weird horizontal roll on the DBS HD input and others inputs too.At first I could power the set off and on and it would come back up. But Monday it went into a horizontal roll and I couldn't hit the system reset or power off and on to bring it back. I lost all signal on the DVI and DVD inputs with only the over the air D tv and the card reader inputs displaying. I went on FixYa and was told it could be the DM board capacitors. So I pull the DM board and replaced the four capacitors and reinstalled it. I still have the same problem. I don't know where to look next. HELP!!!!!

I know the PIP module is on the doubler board and I plan to replace the doubler board and the terminal board if I can find rebuilt ones.

As far as getting a tech to look at the TV, I am trying to do the repairs myself as I do not want to have to sink a bunch of money into this TV only to have to go out and buy another TV. All the experts have been more than willing to offer patient assistance and I appreciate their help. I realize it's hard to diagnose through e-mails but I'm just a guy who's trying to fix a TV.

Here is a pic in Ant- HD of what the display is doing

    • Here is the display in Ant-DTV

  • texden Dec 13, 2009

The chassis is a V23 2003 Mitsubishi. That pic was taken from the Ant-DTV input. That and the card reader is the only inputs that are displaying. All the others are blue screening. But I still have the OSD functions.I also have no sound output on Ant-DTV either.I tried turning the contrast and brightness all the way down, but it didn't have any effect.Others on this website have suggested it could be the PIP chip on the Doubler board or the Sync chips on the terminal board.I was going to call PTS monday and see if they had these boards or get mine rebuilt. Here is the web address for the training manual pdf,so you can have a closer look.(http://www.cir-engineering.com/bin/V23_T... a bunch!!!

Ok , I just got it display in the DVI input(the video mute was on) I switched the direct tv box to 480i and the roll slowed down.but in 1080i it's going crazy.

  • texden Dec 14, 2009

Called PTS today, they want me to send the signal board and any standup board, such as the doubler, svm, terminal for about 120.00

  • texden Dec 15, 2009

    Thanks for all the help!!!!

  • texden Dec 15, 2009

Ok small problem, How do you disconnect the small ribbon connectors that connect the signal board to the other boards. There are seven of them?

  • texden Dec 15, 2009

Nevermind , I got the connectors loose and got all five boards out!!!! Do I need to send the DM board to get bench tested ?

  • texden Dec 16, 2009

The DM controls Net Command(IRs),IEEE1394,Card Reader,OSD-menus,Digital uPC control

  • texden Dec 17, 2009

Just sent 5 boards off, every thing on the signal board. Don't think I will get anything back until after Christmas.Hope this works!!!!!

I have the same problem with the same TV. Did sending your boards to PTS fix the problem?

You still missed the correct capacitor. Try this....lower the contrast and the brightness and see if the horizontal will stabilize...if so you will need to search for that bad cap. I have no idea as to what is in this set as I have not repaired this model. I would guess we are looking for a 200volt 100mf cap or something in this range...Good Luck!

Look for this cap to be on the power supply board..the one with the flyback transformer.

One other thing to check if this cap cannot improve the picture...you could have a corrupt eeprom...this is rare but can happen if there is a really bad solder ground somewhere near the tuner. But remember this is a rare occurence!

I had a chance to sleep on this problem. And the best solution would be to say, is you have a bad scan converter. The repair is not a home remedy. You must send this board to PTS Electronics for rebuild. I saw your photo with the problem. This is certainly the problem and solution. The ICs they will be working on are SMT's. Have seen this in many other TV's. TV repair is a kinda of stop and really think about what you are repairing. It does require massive thought and patience. Sometimes this board is part of the signal board [has rca and tuner jacks] or a smaller board next to this. Sorry it took me so long to figure out the problem! Good Luck!

Do call PTS Electronics..they will guide you as to which board you have to remove. They will tell you how to send it in! Good Move!!!!!

Sometimes it will correcet itself after warmup, But it will eventually get worse. So I beleive we are getting somewhere. Ask and tell the PTS tech what the next step is. I'm still sure the scan converter is on the fritz. Sometimes they may call this a signal board, but ask them anyway, as to send the right board in!

Alright..glad you're getting somewhere. This repair generally comes with a six month guarantee. This means you have that much time to send it back. In my experience if you have it run for 30 days you usually have a repair that will lasts for years!

This DM you are talking about, is it the scan converter board? You must call PTS and ask them to give the board # and location. I have not been inside this tv model for repair. So I'm trying to get the correct board sent. Ask the tech once again your problem and get the board number..they will help you send the correct board. You are doing fine. It is really easy to get discouraged. TV repair takes great patience and massive thought. Sometimes I wonder why I'm still doing it! Check with you later!

I found on this type of symptom replacing the pip module worked I do not know if it where the case for this TV but I am sure that one of the culprits is a pip module.

We cannot place a finger on anything here We cannot see, look, feel, smell the TV. So we are relying on common issues to your non common problem. You have to check before replacing i feel sir your throwing parts at this and basically back for more part throwing. If those capacitors where not swollen, popping on the top chances are you replaced good caps.

So since we still have the same issue when are you going to get a estimate on the TRUE repair here? This service only gives you subjective answers to the true cause as WE cannot see, hear, feel threw a email. We are relying on you to tell us EVERYTHING. Check the pip module if you do not know what it is STOP and get a tech is my advice!!

Mitsubishi ws-55813 horizontal hold

When you say horizontally, do you mean it collapse or it scrambles. Because the 2 are different problems. If you pictures shrinks or collapse then it is in the vertical circuit. and if it scrambles itself almost like you can see the picture but it is broken up over and over again, then this is video problems in video circuit.
