To fix, you go into the properties page of your wireless connection, go to "Wireless Networks" tab and then to Properties of the chosen wireless network you are trying to connect to. Then go to "authentification" tab and untick the box saying "Enable IEEE802.1x to the availiable network" and that should solve your problem

Try disabling your adapter, then go into internet explorer, tools, internet options, content tab and click "clear ssl state". Now, re-enable your adapter and it should now connect.

didnt work..

Right,

Graham's solution worked for me. I had been able to connect previously, but the connection would always indicate that it was validating.
However, it didnt work, until I disconnected, turned the power off my WiFi, unchecked the tab in the authenticate dialog box, clicked ok, then switched the WiFi power back on, and reconnected.

I have a laptop with a Dell D630 with WiFi power switch on the side. Because I have a switch to disable the Wifi power, this seemed easier/safer, and it worked.

I didnt try to disable wifi with softwware.
thanks,

I had this problem on a laptop (lenovo) which i reinstalled xp on.

I tried all the other stuff like disabling 802.11 settings under properties blah blah ...but nothing worked.

To resolve i went to the manufacturer site and downloaded the latest drivers for the wireless card, and any other drivers i could. Restarted the system and the problem went away.

Hadn't read all solutions so I apologize if I'm repeating someone but all I did was go back to Belkin router setup utility, or (192.168.2.1) and clicked "wi fi protected setup". Then, I selected disable at the "wi fi protected setup (wps)" option. This seemed to work for me after I disconnected from my router and reconnected again. However, you may have to go into "view wireless networks", and then choose "change order of preferred networks" in left corner of screen. After this remove your router from preferred networks list. This will allow you to pick your router from available wireless network again, and put in your encryption code. You may or may not have to do this. Hope this helps.

I did not find the above fix for the problem to completely fix the problem. As I did you may need to go into the properties of the rounter under the "Advanced" tab then under the "Wireless settings" remove the checkmark for "Enable WiFi" Then click on "Save Settings" This did fix the issue for me.

- Install modem/router with cd provided.
- During installation you need to entered/will be provided with the network key
- Or you can get the network key via accessing the router using IE. etc http://192.168.0.1
- On your wireless laptop, go to the wireless network in range
- Set the properties to have WPA (TKIP or AES)
- Type the network key  and try Connect to the wireless network.
- If still unable to connect, restart your machine, and try again.
- If still doesn't work, read the manual until you understand what is router is all about. Reading is knowledge. :D

I had the same problem and by following the instructions of "gbduo" I corrected the situation. The solution posted by Graham (gbduo) is:

To fix, you go into the properties page of your wireless connection, go to "Wireless Networks" tab and then to Properties of the chosen wireless network you are trying to connect to. Then go to "authentification" tab and untick the box saying "Enable IEEE802.1x to the availiable network" and that should solve your problem

Im getting the "validating Identity" msg...when I turn off the authentication box, I get "limited or no connectivity" , so Im basically back at where i began , unable to connect to internet. Any suggestion? Could it be something with the wireless router or my laptop?

Comment by ltrabjr1, posted on Feb 14, 2009

I am having a similar problem with my netgear WNR 2000... when I try to log on with my passphrase and confirm, msg states cannot confirm passphrase, but then continues "validating identity"... any thoughts???

Comment by Guest, posted on Nov 26, 2008

When trying to connect to Belkin wireless the status keeps saying validation and the icon says Windows unable to find certificate to log on to Belkin.

I also have a laptop connected to a wireless belkin router and under status it says validating identity. I have also tried the clear the ssl state. I can get on to the internet but I keep getting the validating identity message. What does this message mean and how do I get rid of it?
