Turn the T/W off and see if the carrier moves freely back and forth, put some WD40 on the silver shaft that it slides on, check for debris in the area under the carrier, be sure the printwheel is properly installed and there is no debris in the P/W area.

The batteries hold up margins tabs and other settings when turned
off.

How do you reset the margin on SC-XE6000 when right margin is stuck mid-page width?

Press and hold margin release key while sliding carriage to the left using the carriage release on the end of the carriage, behind the platen (roller) knob, there is one at each end. Put the carriage where you want it and press margin set to reset margin position.

Press margin release key, move carriage using backspace to where you want the left margin to be and press left margin set key. Repeat for the right margin, use space bar to advance the carriage and press the right margin set key instead.

The typewriter needs the escapement adjusted, or you have a bind in the escapement, and it probably needs a good cleaning and oiling. This usually done by a pro.

My HP 5610 is printing margins & line spacing incorrectly. Left margin is off about every 3" (indents to right) & words cut in 'half' with upper part of word off to left & lower part of word...

You need to clean the encoder strip, it's the clear strip that runs across behind the carriage assembly. Use a Q-tip damp with alcohol and don't press too hard. With a light you'll see ink or grease spots that cause the carriage to lose it's place while moving across the page.

IBM selectric II carriage stuck in right margin

There is a thin metal ribbon in the back that has come off the wheel. It is a devel of a thing to get back on.

Remove the cover and watch ... you will see what I am talking about.

It may have come un-attached ... equally difficult to fix without the little thingie the typewirter mechanic uses.

good luck

Resetting the margins on a manual typewriter.

I can't be for sure if these are auto set margins, but it sounds like they might be. If they are, first move the carriage as far to the right as you can. Hold the Left Margin Set (not Margin Release) lever as you move the carriage all the way to the left. Release the Margin Set Button or Lever. Now hold the Right Margin Set Button or Lever (not the Margin Release), and move the carriage all the way to the right while holding the Margin Set. Once the carriage is all the way to the right, release the Margin Set. Move the carriage to the place you want to set your left margin. Hit the Left Margin Set and then release. Move the carriage to where you want to set the right margin. Hit the Right Margin Set and release it. It gets confusing, but Margin Release does not set margins. Its sole purpose is only to bypass the margins. Hope this helps.
