Grasslin Ecosave timer just won't heat the bath!!!

Hey guys,

My landlord recently replaced our emersion switch with a Grasslin timer. It heats the sink alright, but not the bath. When the tap is in the hot position the water pressure just disappears and it never heats up in either hot or cold position. I don't know if it's supposed to do this, but the water pressure won't work at times when the tabs are set to have the heating 'on'...

SOURCE: Vaillant turbomax 28 constant hot water problem.

got your fix, its a calcium buildup in the heat exchanger, and more than likely the rest of the unit, you will need to flush the unit with about 4 gallons of vinegar, you will need to recirculate it for about 20 mins through the unit, then flush with clean water, hook it back up, it might take a couple of mins for it to run properly, but it will, I have had the same problem with Rinnai on demand hot water systems, and it worked like a charm, check the filter thats inline as well, make sure it isnt plugged, clean if needed, also if you dont have a soft water system inplace, you might want to think about buying one and having it installed, that will reduce this from happening again for alot longer period of time, hope that helps

SOURCE: Tankless water heater pilot light will not stay on

It is most likely the water valve stuck open, telling the controls to heat water, that it thinks is flowing through it, but without actual flow it overheats. Depending on how comfortable you are with taking it apart yourself, you could open the valve to see if it just needs cleaned out, or if you have a ruptured diaphragm or some other cause.

SOURCE: alpha 240e boiler wont fire up for hot water, will for heating

most likely the diverter valve.. when hot tap turned on the movement of the water through the valve operates a diaphragm which pushes a pin/button//switch to tell the boiler to fire up

Niagara delta 30ff combi boiler, 13 years old. problem when the hot water for bath heats, the radiators in the house also starts heating, even after central heating thermostat is switched off.

sounds if your zone valve isn't closing off and the circ pump runs all the time ?? ck to see if zone valve gets power all the time or only when thermostat calls for it , if power is only there when called for then your valve is bad (common)

Can I put my central heating on a different time from my water horstmann didam 425

It appears there are 4 trippers on the daily time dial that control all timing. 2 On and 2 OFF

On the right side are override switches for Hot water and Heating
You can only separate Hot water and Heater programming a little bit.
You can choose to have Hot water ON all day, or turn on-off once per day or turn on-off twice a day. Or OFF all day.
The Heater has the same options and the same on-off times as the Hot water.

Manual:
http://www.horstmann.co.uk/files/2513/9867/2118/user_guide_425-TiaraDiadem1.pdf

For fully separate programming, where Hot water and Heater can each be programmed differently, you would need a 2-channel controller like the Grasslin QE2

Off peak hot water not heating!!! :(

The Economy 7 can control different types heater. Some heaters do not have off-peak ... but you can solve problem..
Copy following link:
http://waterheatertimer.org/pdf/QE7-INSTRUCTION.pdf
If timer is wired to two different elements, then the night rate element or off-peak element might be burned out. Test element with multimeter.
http://waterheatertimer.org/How-to-test-water-heater-element.html
Also this timer is wired so either Off-peak is getting power or Boost is getting power, but not both at same time.
If heater has off-peak element, then there will be a wire connected to terminal 5, going to heating unit.
If there is no wire on terminal 5, then there is no off-peak element, or wiring has not been connected. However you can change the timer function by moving wire on terminal 4 to terminal 5. Then only the off-peak timer function will operate, and not the boost.
You can also fool the timer, by setting time clock differently. Instead of setting timer for current time, rotate the dial and fudge current time by 10-12 hours so water heater thinks it's time for boost, but the actual time is during off-peak hours.
If terminals 4 and 5 both have wires, then either the element is burned out, or the timer has malfunctioned. Again, you can fool the timer by setting current time differently, and solve problem.

How do you override the timer if you want to turn off or on outside the preset timer programme

1) Is this the Towerchron QE2?
http://waterheatertimer.org/pdf/Grasslin-QE1-QE2_GB instructions.pdf

2) Page 8: While slide switch is in run-own-program or run-preset-program mode, you can override by pressing select button until arrow points to Boost, or arrow points to ADV.
This will reverse program until next set point.

3) Add comment and describe which timer you have.

My Grasslin Digi 20E-120 timer will not set time or timer. The 1-7 numbers blink. What does this mean?

Digi 20E-120 is 16Amp 120Volt flush mount digital timer with 20 or 140 programs per week.
Grasslin Digi (digi tal/ digital) can be reset using reset button.
Reset might restore functionality, but will delete all programming.

Check that circuit is delivering 120Volt and that circuit is clean without interference.

Also check electrical terminals fit tight on the timer.
Use needle nose pliers and pull terminals off and then push back.
The digi series has 5-day program back-up capacitor so programs should remain, but capacitors go bad.
Power surge can blow out timers. Use surge protection on all circuits.

There are a many Digi timers from years of manufacture by GE and now Intermatic, since Intermatic bought Grasslin from GE.
The digi can be replaced with simple-to--program FM1D digital timer.

Replacement crossover is FM1D20E-120

Replacement timer motor needed

If you have Intermatic timer, then clock motors are available for most hard-wire box-type timers. Most pool and spa timer modules are available or have same/similar replacements. If you have plug-in timer, including power pack or portable outdoor timer or indoor plug-in or in-wall timer, then no clock motors are available.
http://waterheatertimer.org/Intermatic-trippers-and-parts.html

If you have Tork timer, then clock motor is available for 1100 series.
http://waterheatertimer.org/Tork-timers-and-manuals.html
If you have Paragon timer, clock motors will be hard to find
http://waterheatertimer.org/Paragon-timers-and-manuals.html
If you have other brands of timer, then clock motors are not available except Deihl, DIGI and Grasslin timer modules, but post brand and model number of timer so I can search my files.
