Question about Dell Dimension 4600 PC Desktop
Last winter while in Texas they had a heavy fog one morning and had a "flashover" which blew out my ethernet card and my sound card. I had to replace both. Yes, I did have it plugged into a surge protector. It blew that too. Since then it runs very slow and freezes frequenty. I have a Dell Dimension 4600C and love it because it is small and I can take it in our motorhome when we travel. I have a 74.4 G hard drive and have free space of 49.8 and have 512 mg memory.
Is there anything else I can do to speed it up? I had a tech look at it this spring and he couldn't seem to find anything.
Iam using Spyware Dr., AVG, Registry Mechnic, Spy Eraser.Power Suite, and speed up my PC. You can see I have tried almost everything.
Can you help me. Thanks Dakota Donna
I would also like to make a recommendation as well :)
I notice the suite of programs you are using to speed up your computer, ( spyware doctor etc. etc.). If any of those things are running in your background, it can hog up alot of your system rescources. So you might not be in a program but you might have 5 or 6 programs working behind the scenes, therefor causing your system to be slow when starting, using, and closing programs. I also am aware that you need to at least have an antivirus in the background running. So what i would do is ERASE, UNINSTALL, ALL THOSE PROGRAMS , once you have run them , and tried them out, get rid of them. Your next step is to goto this website address and click the download link.
Now what this software is, is a FREE 100% antivirus, spyware, and adware protection.. This program runs in the background and it will automatically update itself for free forever! and it will protect your computer from spyware, antiviruses, and anything else. Best of all it doesnt make your computer run slow. You never have to pay a dime for this software, I hope this all helps. I would also recommend putting in more RAM (memory) . If you got 512 now, then get another 512 stick and pop it in there. I wouldnt reccomend getting a 1 gig stick because you want your memory to run parallel.. For example either have 2 sticks of 512 ram or just one stick of ram with 1 gig. Dont keep your 512 in there and then buy another 1 gig cause thats pointless and a waste of money just buy another stick of 512 that should be plenty sufficient. Please reply with an update to see if any of this helped. Thnx!

I'm thinking it's time to add more RAM to it. With the amount of space that's used up i'm imagining that your hard drive light is flashing alot now. I recommend that you put an extra gig of RAM in it. I hope this sorts out the problem for you.
