    Thanks os.......

Can you give me an idea how much Sony will want for the board?

Any advice on replacing - location and tools needed?

  • JOBR Jan 21, 2008

    os,

I contacted Sony.....It would seem that nobody knows what a deflection board is for that TV model (note it sounded like an indian call center so I might as well have been asking for a Fleet Enima)

Someone from their refurbished parts dept is going to call me back - I do not have high hopes.

Are there any resources online to scrounge up a part #?

  • JOBR Jan 29, 2008

    bb,

    Thanks for all your help............

BUT wow what a nightmare this has become!!!!

Sears tells me that I cannot purchase a new part #A1302180A - I have to bring in the refurbished part, have them repair it(they are kidding right, refurbish a board?) and then they will mail it back to me!!!!

It gets better because I cannot find anyone at sears to accept the part to be refurbished - Local stores send me to the main repair center and they send me back to the "local repair center".

Contacted MatElectronics - They tell me that they do not carry it.......

Local retailers (Best Buy, Bill Smith etc,) want to take the TV back to their "shop" so that they can fix it for "$700 to $800 dollars" (interesting that they all quote the same amount isn't it) They must me kidding if they think I would let them take the TV with them.

Sooooooooooo - Would you have any advice at this point?

    Thank you.

    bb,

Well, long story short this is just a game.

Spoke with Sears - Both part #'s reference the same part.......Thank you for taking another shot at it.

Sears will not sell the part retail - only a technician can install for "$700 to $800 dollars".

My guess is that Sony will not sell me the part either - Any thoughts on anyone that might sell the part to me would be greatly appreciated.

  • JOBR Jan 30, 2008

    Hey bb,

    Thanks for responding..........

    I just purchased it online........

On Monday I purchased the part over the phone - Then yesterday someone from Sears called and told me the story about not being able to sell a new part - It would have to be refurbished.....

Today I was told that I could not order the part because I am not a technician.....

We will see if the online order makes it past the gate keepers/Thieves.

    Thanks again for your help!!

  • JOBR Jan 31, 2008

    bb,

Thanks for hanging in there with me on this insanity.......

Unfortunately Sears will not sell me the part unless I am a technician - I ordered by phone and online using both part #'s - Either way they call back and cancel the order - They start by saying it is a refurbished part that I need to bring to a local Sears service center(of course the local stores send you right back to the 800 number) but when you push and get up the chain of morons it turns out they are thieves and will only sell to a technician.

I could not find the part anywhere else - So I am on hold for a while until I can track down a better option.

I broke down and had an "authorized" Sony tech come out to look at the TV - I informed him about the LED timer blink number when I initiated the service call - The tech showd up, looked at the TV, noted the number of blinks and then told me what was wrong and that he would have to take the TV with him - Amazing that they can get away with this. Fucken Asshole.

Having someone take the TV back to their "shop" is another fucking scam to jack the repair price up - Layers on layers of in your face theft.

Long story short, Sony, Sears, the electroncis chains and all of the supposedly independant repair shops are Fucking Thieves.

    Thanks again.

Fortunately, Sony, of all manufacturers, has built in a diagnostic tool to help you decide what the problem is.

You can count the number of blinks and then look up the problem and solution below:

-----------------
Sony Blinking Codes
Many of the later model Sony TV's have a built in Self- Diagnosis function. If the timer/standby indicator is blinking, this could be an indication of the problem with the unit. The diagnostic blinking will occur automatically with no action required by you to engage it.
The timing of the blinking you see would be as follows: two to eight blinks (depending on the fault) about a third of a second apart, then pauses for 3 seconds, then the two to eight blinks about a third of a second apart again.
Here is a list of the problems that might have occurred indicated by the number of blinks. The words in parentheses are those which you will see for each of these faults on a diagnosis screen described later in this article.
Unit is dead and there are no blinks---Problem in the standby power section. Might check fuse, R607, Q601, IC601, R612 and VDR601 (should show open)
Continuous Blink Once A Second, No Pausing As Discussed Above---

No reply from the jungle IC301 (data bus is busy, shorted to ground or held high), IK video path is defective.
ONE Blink--- not used for the self-diagnosis
TWO Blinks---B+ over current protection (OCP) , unit goes to the standby
mode then displays the 2 blink fault. Could be a short in the power supply of
any of the circuits.
THREE Blinks---B+ over voltage protection (OVP), unit goes to the standby
mode then displays the 3 blink fault. This is also a problem in the power
supply circuit, check T603 and R672.
FOUR Blinks---No Vert. Deflection (V STOP), Screen goes to a single
horizontal line then the video signal muted. Check IC1509, Q1505
FIVE Blinks---AKB circuit (AKB), the timer/standby indicator blinks for about
30 seconds then goes to the self-diagnosis function. Something is wrong with
the video. Check video out, Q705, 732, 761 and other components on the C
board, also check Q218, 219, 220 on the A board. Also unit be in IK blanking,
try turning up screen slightly.
SIX Blinks---No Horizontal (H STOP), no raster, goes to the blinking selfdiagnosis
function immediately. Check C515 & 516 and the jungle IC, IC206.
SEVEN Blinks---High voltage shutdown. The high voltage has exceeded 33k
and the unit goes immediately into safety shutdown. Check power supply
regulation and horizontal circuits.
EIGHT Blinks---Problem with the audio (AUDIO), unit goes to standby and
blinks the self-diagnosis code. Check IC406 audio amp, PS401 and 402.
Intermittent problems ?? This is a great feature. You can also bring up
these fault codes ON-SCREEN to see a list of the problem numbers with the
abbreviation of the problem and the number of times this problem has
occurred. This is slightly different than entering the service mode. To see the
diagnostic screen, Press the following buttons:
Display, Channel, 5, Vol Minus, ( Not plus ) then Power. This brings up
a screen with a list of the problems and number of times they have occurred.
Each of the problem names is abbreviated as, "OCP", "OVP", "V STOP", ETC.
We have repeated them in parentheses in the text for the "Blinks" described
above so you can correlate between the diagnostic screen and the blink
codes.
So, now that you know about these self-diagnostics, how do you use them?
Say that you have a set with a black screen. You see that the LED is blinking
4 times....This would tell you that you have no vertical and that is why the
video is muted. If it was blinking 6 times, you would know that you have a
horizontal fault.
It's not a sure cure, but it's a little better than a poke in the eye with a sharp
stick.
IMPORTANT: after you repair the unit, PLEASE clear the values on this diagnostic screen. These codes do not reset themselves after the fault is 0 corrected, so if you don't clear them, you'll be seeing "old" fault codes the
next time you enter this screen. Clearing is done by going into the service mode ( display, channel, 5, volume plus, then power ) then press 8 and Enter, which of course returns
everything to the factory preset condition.

----------------

As a general rule, the blinking standby light means serious problems and you would be better off getting a technician involved.

This set is a very expensive one and it has some life left in it. Further it is a Sony, so you will be wise to get it fixed.

After studying the blinking codes, let me know if you have any further questions.

    Try: Mat Electronics
    1-800-628-1118
    www.matelectronics.com

Part number for D Board: A1302180A

Sears parts (enter model # KP-46WT510 in the MODEL # blank, click MODELS, and then GO) also has this item for around 100 bucks. I would try MAT electronics to compare first!

Not sure how much sony charges but jvc charges 209. for the deflection board and its a simple unpluging of the cords and unscrewing the board and replacing, if you take the back of the tv off youll see two boards the one on the right hand side is the deflection board and youll notice its simple to remove...just remember where all the plugs go...or have a professional do it.

Low B over voltage or over current shutdown its usually related to either the A board or the B board. You can get the replacement A board which includes the B board from www.tvrepairworld.com

6 bliks on sony kp-46wt510

KP46WT510 Shutdown 6 Blinks. 6 Blinks = Low B+ OCP/OVP
SOLUTION: Replaced Flyback transformer. It had no rings on the ringer test.
HQ
Comments: Any load on the B+ line can cause 6 Blinks.
Example: If the 200v line is loaded down will cause a drop in B+ due to bright picture current demand.
