Question about Panasonic SD-YD205 Bread Maker

1 Answer

Panasonic SD-YD205 Bread Maker: Paddle gets stuck then continues.

The paddle gets stuck, making screeching noises then continues...

I opened the unit; the belt is whole, maybe a little bent in one place.
There is black residue on the motor housing near the gear.

The unit is about 5 years old.

Will a new belt help?
Where can I get one?

Ran a cycle WITH the pan and paddle in place, WITHOUT any ingredients; no noises!

I also managed to grab the paddle and hold it while the machine tried turning it, and it made those same screaching noises...

So, I guess the load causes it... but how can i tell if the prob is with the belt, bearing seal or...?

Hi,
Take the bread pan out of the machine and run a kneading cycle. If it is noisy with the pan out then you can take the belt off and try a kneading cycle again. If it's quiet, the yep it's the belt. If still noisy its a gear or the motor itself. If everything is quiet with the pan out then it's the pan itself. There is a sealed bearing in the pan that allows the paddle to spin. The seal on the bearing leaks oil and the bearing either freezes or does not let the paddle spin freely. There is no replacement for the sealed bearing ..and a new pan is needed. Good Luck Hank

My bread maker apparently does not stir the mixture, so the end result is a gooey blob that has not risen at all. What's wrong? Is it worth repairing?

Either the belt has broken or the pan bearing has failed. If you still have your owners manual may be able to get replacement parts. In 2003 the was a high quality machine. As they say you get what you pay for.

Lift out the bread and then try to turn the paddle by hand. If it can not be turned by hand the bearing has failed. (If you can soak the pan with bearing in hot water and see if it frees up.)

If it can be turned by hand then most likely the belt is loose, broken or worn out. I would try this source if you need belt:

Here is a source for the breadpan bearing:

The paddle on my panasonic breadmaker has stopped turning. Without the pan the mechanism revolves but once the pan is in place the paddle does not move.

Hi,
If you take the pan out of the machine and can't turn the paddle freely by hand, then the sealed bearing is frozen. You can try putting warm water in the pan and soaking it. After a few tries if it does not free up then the sealed bearing is broken and bread pan needs to be replaced. Good Luck..Hank

The paddle stays inside bread when operation complete

Hi,
Most of the time this happens. It's normal. You can fish it out of there, or simply take out the paddle after the final rise and before baking.

The paddle will not stay on the shaft while mixing dough.

Probably the paddle and shaft are worn. Both are replaceable. Buy a new Paddle and a Kneader mounting shaft unit (Part No. ADA 29A115)
