Replace snowblower belt

Locate the two top auger housing fastening bolts and remove. The auger housing will tilt forward and then lift the housing off of the bottom 2 bolts/bushings. You will need to support the traction frame as it will try to fall onto the handles.

Auger does not stay engaged when the lever is released to turn the chute, even though the traction drive is still engaged. Very annoying when trying to clear snow. How can I remedy this? Thanks

Either two things come to mind, first I would check the shear pins. When a shear pin is broken, the auger turns but stops as soon as it hits a load (snow). The shaft is turning, but there's no mechanical connection between the shaft and the auger.

The second thing is the belt either needs adjusting or replaced. Belt adjustments should be checked before every winter and are simple to preform. When checking the drive and auger belts, look for glazed running surfaces, and cracking. Either sign means the belt(s) need replacing. Also if the belt(s) have streched beyond their normal adjustment.

5. Install the new belt and release the belt tensioner pulley to tighten the belt.
6. Re-install the belt guide with a socket wrench and tighten the bolt.
7. Re-install the two belt cover stud bolts and tighten with a socket wrench.
8. Re-install the belt cover and secure it with the cover bolts. Tighten the bolts with a socket wrench.

I pulled the following from a snaper model similar to yours.
The snowthrower has two drive belts, one for the traction
drive-which transmits engine power to the wheels, and
a second for the auger drive-which transmits engine
power to the auger mechanism.
Each of these drive belts are of special construction and
should be replaced only with genuine replacement belts
which match the original equipment belts. These are
available from your dealer.
Traction Drive Belt Replacement
I pulled the following from a snapper model similar to yours. Believe it should help.

1. Disconnect spark plug wire and fasten it away from
the spark plug.
2. Remove belt cover. (Located in back of the discharge shute).
3. Pull the traction drive belt idler pulley arm (See
Figure 24) away from the belt to relieve tension, and
slide the belt off the engine pulley.
4. Slip the belt off from around the traction pulley (See
Figure 29) and pull the belt out of the unit between
the auger pulley and the traction pulley (the lower
cover need not be removed for this step).
5. Reverse the procedure to install the new belt. Be
sure there are no twists in the belt, and that the belt is
properly seated in the pulley grooves.
6. Replace the belt cover.
7. Start the unit, and check the traction drive for proper
operation. See "Traction Clutch Cable Adjustment"
for adjustment procedures.

There are also several videos on YouTube on changing snowthrowr belts. (Didn't see one for your blower, but most similar and should provide a good starting reference).

Auger belt on snowblower keeps breaking after about an hour of use, please help.

Try removing the drive belt and turning the auger by hand . If there is no problem it will turn freely by hand but if it feels tight check the auger tube for bends or dents that will restrict the free movement of the shaft. The next thing to check is the pulleys If they are "V" belts then check that you have the correct belt or the correct pulleys for the belt. A "V" belt is fitted correctly when the top most width of the belt is about 1/16 " above the rim of the pulleys . IN other words it just sticks out of the pulley. The pulley sides have to be smooth and not stepped as this creates different running speeds for different sections of the belt and that generates heat. Imagine a duel tyre wheel where one tyre is 2" larger than the other but both are running on the road . As there are different circumferences there fore different distances covered in one revolution Then one tyre is being dragged along. The same applies if the pulleys have steps in the sides from wear.. If it turns freely but feels lumpy then you will need to replace the bearings . Check inside the auger tube as there may be some thing like rope /cloth or wire jammed and acting like a brake.

I have an Airens 8hp snowblower that when it is in gear it won't move forward. It takes alot of force to move it but the augers move and the snow flies out of the chute good. What can I look at fixing?

I believe that model has to belts. one for the auger drive and one for the traction drive. I would check the traction drive belt. The is also a rubber drive donut that rides on a melat disc to drive the wheels. Make sure the rubber drive donut is not glazed and cracked, and one other simple thing to check. On the end of each axle is a pin or some kind of locking device that lock the wheel from spinning on the axle. Make sure these are engaged. Goodluck on it.

Traction Belt (new) continues to slip off of drive plate.

Sounds like you may need to replace the pulley as well. It has likely worn out of specification.

38652 240000001-240999999
SUBJECT: Traction belt jumps off the pulley.
SITUATION: Incorrect pulley alignment causes the traction belt to jump off, usually when the drive is disengaged or as a hill is crested.
CORRECTION:
1. Remove the belt cover, engine belt guide and the bolt securing the crankshaft pulley.
2. Remove the auger brake assembly.
3. Remove the crankshaft pulley and the auger belt.
4. On the left side of the machine, remove the hair pin cotter from the speed control link and slide the link out of the pulley pivot assembly. The traction belt can now be removed.
5. Shorten the pulley half nearest the engine (PN 106-7334) shown in Fig 1. Grind or machine 1/8” (.125”/3.2mm). from the hub end of the pulley. The new finished length of the pulley half should be 1.07” (2.7cm).
6. Chamfer the bore to ensure the pulley fully contacts the shoulder on the crankshaft. You can send the pulley to an outside machine shop if you do not feel that you can modify the pulley in house.
7. Reinstall the pulley with a new traction belt.
A. Chamfer edge after grinding/machining.
B. Remove 1/8”.
C. Masking tape used as a reference line.
8. With the engine off, engage both the traction and auger levers and inspect the alignment of both the auger and traction belt idler pulleys (Fig. 2). Since we have moved the crankshaft pulley it may be necessary to bend the idler arms slightly to center the belts. Adjust as needed.
9. Install the engine belt guide and test operate.
10. Install the belt covers.
