Heatsink on video has come loose..how do you put clips back into board? is it possible

    No not the processor..the intergraded graphics chip..no fan just heatsink..the heatsink hooked to u clips which went into board..these u clips have come loose..look to be hotpasted in?? u clip has 2 prongs went into motherboard and has black plastic cross piece...how do I hook these back into the motherboard..so it can secure the heatsink..ugh I will prob just bypass and put in a videocard

Yea there should be a lever if not it was sottered on so what you can do is maybe glue it back??? don't know but gluing it would be something i would do rofl..

    Right that would be my choice if you don't want to mess up the motherboard it self buy a new video card and feed off that instead of doing all that work, i know it was not the processor but now that u explained it was the integrated make more scene then what u had asked.

What processors will are compatible with an hp 3396 motherboard

Try removing the clips from both ribbon cables and re seat them, if that doesn't fix it chances are the Tcon board has failed

Hp dv6000 attempts to start led lights come on then shuts down repeats this process


The hp dv6000 has a video card issue that is very comman the cpu heatsink and the video card and conncted to the same copper heatsink and what happens is the video card overheats and the pins that are soldered to the board come loose now there is a couple of ways to fix it option a is to take the laptop apart and remove the motherboard and heatsink and the cpu chip then locate the video chip and isolate the video card and heat it up to remelt the solder points this can be done by taking a aluminum can and cuting out the square that is same size of video chipthen with a heat gun heat up the chip so the solder joints remelt to the board but BE VERY CARFUL IF YOU OVER HEAT THE CHIP IT WILL MELT once the chip has cooled then reistall your cpu chip add new thermal paste and get a flat square piece of copper the size of the cpu chip and put it on the cpu chip then add more thermal paste and put the heat sink back on and reassemble the laptop and if you didnt damage the chip it should fire right up option b is to buy a replacement motherboard that has the upgraged heatsink installed and put that in but make sure yoyu order the right board check the replacement part number sticker on the motherboard and make sure yoyu order the right one i have done this process to about 200 of these hp dv6000 and they are still working today

Heatsink louse (spring clip ****) could i use a metal shim or something like that


You could shim it if you're careful, but don't shim between the processor and the heatsink, put it between the spring clip and the top of the heatsink. Also as this a universal heat sink, are you using the correct mounting attachments? normally these are very tight and difficult to get on rather than loose.

Is it possible to put the cpu back in the wrong way? i have just cleaned my comp & i removed the fan over the cpu & the video card? i put them back & now i cant get a signal to my monitor could...


If there is no activity when you power up then it could be the CPU.
Remove the CPU and check the CPU to see if you have not bent any pins. The CPU can only be installed in one position.
The CPU when removed usually sticks to the heatsink.
The CPU should be removed off the heatsink.
The CPU is locked onto the CPU chip holder, lift the locking level up to release the CPU or there may be a locking screw instead of a lever. Turn the screw anti-clockwise to release the CPU lock.
Insert the CPU in the chip holder and lock the CPU in place. If it a screw lock then turn the screw clockwise to lock the CPU in place.
Smear some fresh heat sink compound on the CPU and heatsink and place and then lock the heatsink in place.

ok the three red rings was lit to notify you that your board, cpu and gpu have experienced a significant source of heat. So much in fact you really should bring it to a repair shop. I see these at least 4-5 times a day your 360 needs to be disassembled and the heat sinks removed this will allow you access to the cpu and gpu both sides of the board need to be heated with a equal amount of heat to heat up the solder and reseat both chips.

My xbox has audio but no video how can i fix this?


first check to see if the video plug on your screen isn't faulty. test the video port with another machine, like a dvd player or something. try and get ahold of another audio video cable for xbox, then test that. an easy fix might be to buy an HDMI cable and use that instead, if you dont have one already. if both sets of A/V cables dont work, then its the xbox itself. but the hdmi might still work

My heat sink clips on this plastic piece thats screwed into the mother board one of the taps broke off and the heat sink fan combo falls off the mother board and the computer over heats. what is this...


those r called as Heat sink Clip u can find in any radio shack or any HW Shop. make sure that befor u put the HeatSink put the Thermal Gel.

I am trying to remove a and replace the motherboard in my desktop pc. I have quad core processors. How do I fit and get the pc to recognise the new board and processors?


If the motherboard you bought did not come with a processor and heatsink, you will have to take the one from your current system and put them in the new one. You will also need thermal paste for this transfer, so please purchase some if you do not have it already.

Keep in mind that no versions of Windows XP can use more than 4 GB of RAM, and only the 64-bit version of Windows Vista can correctly use it. If you are still intent on replacing the board after knowing this, follow these directions.

You're going to want to be very careful with this kind of procedure. Ensure that everything is unplugged and that you are working in a static free environment. (Not on the carpet!)

First, you'll want to take out the power supply. Follow the cables down, and disconnect them from each of the components it powers. The connections for the motherboard will have retention clips, so be careful. Once you have the connections undone, take a screwdriver and remove the power supply from the case.

Next, look to see if the hard drives hover over the board in any way. If they are not in the way, try not to remove them. We want as little re-assembly as possible.

You're going to want to disconnect the cables for the hard drive(s) next. Remove them from the motherboard, keeping an eye on which cables went where. The same goes for the cables from your DVD/CD drive(s).

Next, take a look at what's connected to your board. Are there any expansion cards? If so, unscrew them from the back of the machine, and carefully lift them out. If there is a videocard in the machine, watch for a retention clip - make sure not to force the card out.

After everything is out, look around. Make sure that there are no fans connected from the case to the board, and if there are, unplug them. Lastly, take the wires running from the front of the case to the bottom area of the board, and disconnect them. Please notice if there are labels on them.. you will need to hook them up according to your new board's arrangement.

Once you're sure that nothing else is connected to the board, start unscrewing it from the side of the case. On most boards, there will be six screws for this. Please make sure you get them all. Once this is done, you can lift the old one out. Most people do this by pulling up on the heatsink fan over their processor. I also suggest lifting by the sides of the board itself. It may tug where the back panel with the keyboard/mouse/USB ports are.. Just lift the board on the upper right side and angle it out if it does.

Once you have the old board out, set it somewhere safe. Remove the heatsink. This will be a forceful procedure.. You'll need to lift the rentention clip and lift it off.. Wipe the old thermal paste from the bottom of the heatsink. Go back to the board, and lift the small lever that is next to the processor. You should be able to lift it out, be very careful with the bottom!

Clean the processor, and get the excess thermal paste off. Lift the retention bracket next to the socket of the new board, carefully lining the processor up and setting it down gently. Lower the bracket.

Apply a small bit of thermal paste to the processor. Spread it evenly, making sure there are no gaps or globs. Take the heatsink, align it with the socket, and gently lower it on top of the processor. Lock the heatsink back down, and let it set for a bit to get the air bubbles worked out from the paste. Make sure you connect the fan in the heatsink to the board!

If the metal shield around your keyboard/mouse/USB ports matches your new board, you can leave it in. Otherwise, replace it with the one that came with your new board. Look at how the screws line up with the newer board.. If it matches the gold posts (standoffs) in your case, then you can lower the board back in the same way you lifted the old one out, and gently set it down. It will take some work to get it properly aligned with that metal shield.

Once you have it set down, begin to screw the board down. Make sure ALL of the holes are filled - you don't want anything to short out. Begin with the wires from the front of the case. They are called "front panel" connections, and a guide to hooking them up should be in your motherboard's manual.

Connect the fans back up to the board, and reinstall the power supply, reversing the directions I gave earlier. Leave out the extra expansion cards for now, and if the board has a video port near the keyboard/mouse, leave out the videocard, too. If it doesn't have its own video port, go ahead and put your card back in. Install the RAM.

Connect the power connections from the power supply back up to the board, hard drives, and DVD/CD drives. Take the cables from those drives and reconnect them to your new board. From here, you should be able to turn the system on.

Your system WILL freak out. There is new hardware attached, and it won't have the drivers. Just cancel when it tries to look for them, and then run the CD that came with the motherboard to get everything installed and working. Once you're sure everything's going to be working alright, turn off the machine and reinstall the extra cards.
