Question about Canon PowerShot SD110 / IXUS IIs Digital Camera
The LCD screen on my Canon is showing only flashes of light, and the camera will not take photos.
Does the camera really not take photos, or are the photos black or distorted? If black or distorted photos, then it might be a defective CCD imager. If so, Canon should fix this for you for free, including free shipping both ways. This is regardless of your camera's warranty status. Please check the following two links for more info:

Had the same problem with my SD10. The switch in the AV port sometimes gets dirty or corroded, and tricks the camera into thinking that an AV plug is inserted. This will turn off the screen.
To fix it, repeatedly insert and remove an AV cable into the port several times. This may help break off any corrosion or dirt that may be holding this switch open.

Use a card reader instead of your camera to download to a folder you create on your desktop. Then, import the pics to iphoto from there.
