Needle won't pick up bobbin thread

Hi Experts,

My XL1000 won't pick up the bobbin thread and when I try sewing to see where the problem is, it makes a loud and grinding noise. I have checked and oiled about every moving part, changed the needle, removed lint, cleaned it out, taken the bobbin area apart and put them back, nothing has worked. Help!!!. I bought it in 1998 but it's only slightly used. What are my warranty options.

Is it possible the bobbin is in backwards? I have also found mine to be fussy with cheap bobbins.

I received a 221 singer feather light as a gift.... Love using old machines. It will not pick up the bobbin thread. When it cycles the top thread hangs up and breaks.

Lucky you!

First thing to always try is a brand new needle. A lot of sewing machine problems are due to an old, dull, bent needle.

Most likely the machine has been knocked out of time--the needle and hook are out of sync. Search for sewing machine timing or take it or service.

I have a brother ls-2150 I can't pick cotton up from the bobbin

Try installing a brand new needle (verify it is installed correctly). If it still does not pick up the bobbin thread, the needle/hook may be out of time, requiring service.

My Bernette 715 isn't picking up the bobbin thread and is getting jammed. Any ideas what's wrong?

First thing to always try: Install a brand new needle. A dull, worn, or bent needle will cause great frustration. It is also the least expensive resolution to most problems.

Second: Remove all the threads. RAISE the presser foot. Rethread from the beginning making sure it is threaded correctly.
Pull up the bobbin thread before beginning to stitch and hold the thread tails in the left hand while slowly taking the first few stitches:

If still having issues with not pulling up the bobbin thread, the needle/hook may be out of time.

try cleaning under the needle plate & in bobbin area for loose threads or lint
try using a new needle--make sure the needle is inserted correctly in the needle holder
try rethreading the machine top & bobbin
if you try all these suggestions & the machine still won't pick up the bobbin thread then it's possible that the machine is out of time & would have to be retimed at a sewing machine shop

Needle won't pick up bobbin thread

check to make sure that the needle was put into the needle holder correctly
all the way up into the needle holder--flat side of the needle to the back side of the machine
if the machine still doesn't up the bobbin thread then
it's possible that when the needle broke that it caused the machine to go out of time which means it has to be retime at a sewing machine shop

I have a Kenmore 385.1764180 and cannot get the thread in the bobbin to catch onto the thread in the needle and pull through ready for sewing. Have tried everything but it still will not work.

Hi! When the top thread doesn't pick up the bobbin thread, it nearly always is because the needle isn't in correctly. Take your needle out, and put it back, making sure the flat side of the needle shank is facing away from you. A bent needle can also cause problems with picking up the bobbin thread. Hope this helps!
Happy Sewing!
