Question about Hitachi 57SWX20B 57" Rear Projection Television

Will not power up

My Hitachi 57TWX20B will not power up. When I plug it in the red LED will come on for about a second and then clicks off and will not power up. Kind of looks like an overload problem. This was an intermittent problem and now appears to be a consistant problem.

I haven't noticed any problems with the picture. Once the TV comes on everything is fine.

I will look into purchasing a service manual. I just thought this might be a common problem and someone would have a fix for it.

I was an electronic technician for many years and went on to get my EE degree so I am comfortable working on electronic equipment.

I would appreciate any other ideas that you or the other gurus might have.

Hi,

The set has gone into protection mode. This activation is caused when one of the many sections of the tv develops a shorted condition. The only way to know where the short is at would be for a tech to search for it using diagnostic techniques. It requires a voltmeter and oscilloscope to measure the voltages and look at waveforms, often, to determien where the failure points are.

Please check for fuse that may have blown. Use your owners manual as a guide, also, for this symptom.

But, normally, let's say 80% of the time, this indication points to a serious, expensive repair. Very common is failure of the high voltage components - such as the flyback autotransformer or the horizontal drivers that power the flyback. But, it can be other factors, such as the main power supply, audio amplifier or deflection systems.

I suggest you have a good tech come in and diagnose the problem so you can decide what to do next.

Hitachi are one of the finest big screens around and you surely would want to get it running again if the repair is not totally outrageous.

Let me know if you have further questions.
Goodluck,
Don't forget to rate me as fixya..

Your main relay or some capacitor direct with that relay seems to be faulty. not sure, but if you can try changing these..

Common fault with this tv is the Convergence IC's (STK's) needing replacement they endure a lot of heat and they often break down. Did you ever notice any bowing on pic?

    pic of STK

If replacing this component don't use cheap ones, there are a lot of inferior components on the market, you should pay approx $25 not $6 for them.

You could just as easierly have a simple bad solder joint that needs to be resoldered.

You could try remove the covers and giving the relay on the power supply P.C.B. a gentle tap, this would only be a temp fix if it is a sticky relay issue, that's about as far as I can go without feedback or knowledge of your capability and comfort level of working on high voltage equipment.

    Cheers

    S ;)

Wont power on

Good day, papamotts;

Hitachi has LED’s, green ‘lights’ and a red light to determine what circuit may be the problem; after removing the back of TV, bottom only, plug TV back in and observe which LED’s come on …..BUT most important which LED’s don’t come on; locate and note number, EG; DP37 and etc.

Good luck, big IRISH. Ps let me know.

This can be one of two problems. 1: convergence output ic's need to be replaced. 2: The problem is in the power supply, most likely a power diode.

Both problems you will need to take it two a repair shop.

Hitachi 57TWX20B powers on ( but no picture or sound)

f you had multiple power outages, i would contact the power company or/and insurance company and it should be covered under that, but sounds like power supply problem if you had power surges
if lighting cause it then it could be anything.
